Did Jamie Pollard come up short?

So he scaled back the plan?

Looks like he only raised 3.5 million

    what now?

In June, university officials planned on a $35 million project at the football stadium that included new luxury suites on the stadium's west side, renovation of the club seating on the east side, and a bowling-in of the south end zone of the stadium.

Now, the first phase includes only construction and renovation of the premium seating sections as well as replacement of concession and toilet areas on both sides of the stadium.

The Jack Trice upgrades would be paid for with $3.5 million in gifts already committed and $16 million in bonds to be paid back with revenue from sale and rental of suites.

Where are you getting this from? There was an article today in the Rag about next week they take this to the regents and bowling in the south endzone was mentioned as part of the plan.

He only has to raise a certain ammount of money and the rest is covered in bonds they take out to finance the project.

Re: Did Jamie Pollard come up short?

As well as I can remember, that was all that was ever planned for phase 1. Phase 2 involves the rest of the suites and the bowling in of the south end zone. That's what I remembered at least.

The Jack Trice project is $35 mil total. Phase 1 is $19.5 mil.

I see Pollard raising ticket prices, parking prices, etc...but what I don't see is him convincing big donors to give the big bucks. Where is the announcement that "so and so" is donating $10 million, for example?

Considering ISU has raised more in the first 1/2 of this year than any other complete year I would say JP has been doing just fine in the fundraising arena.

If we don't raise enough money, JP didn't come up short. The fans came up short.

Well that is not completely true. Tell that to any marketing person and they'd probably disagree with you. While the fans are the ones that give the money, if you are creative enough with your marketing you should be able to find ways to meet your goals. Fans and administration are in this together so if we were to fall short on this everyone involved is to blame.

This has a lot to do with the university changing the National Cyclone Club due dates. Ours would not have been due until May, but since they moved the deadline up, we paid earlier. I'm sure this was the case with a lot of people. Thus, more money was raised in the first half of the year.

Bowling in the endzone isn't suppose to happen until 2010 anyway. We have a little over $7 million for construction alone, almost $12 million all together.

Agree...Pollard is the best thing to happen to this Athletic Department in a long time. He sees the big picture of college athletics and realizes what it is going to take to get to that level of the upper half of the Big 12 schools. He isnt settling for being mediocre and maybe going to a bowl game once in awhile, like past AD's had settled. He's realizes the potential of ISU Athletics but it just takes time. We can't expect to be getting the $10 million donations right off the bat like Texas or Oklahoma would get, we are not there yet. Just give him more than 8 months before we start criticizing.

As a sales person, I would have to agree- that is the mindset that Jamie Pollard needs to have. As a fan, I would say that anyone who has ever wished for more success or griped about the lack of success at ISU needs to take responsibility too.

Our football team is what SHOULD convince people to donate. Without a successful program, the most ambitious, marketing driven ADs wouldn't be able to get millions and millions of dollars. I think JP has done a fabulous job for us so far.

No JP nor the fans have come up short. Look at the Master Plan. Unless I am missing something everything is on track. I believe the westside restrooms is actually an addition to the Phase 1 plan.

    Phase 1
    Football Stadium Suites/Club/Gates Fall 2008 $10 million
Hilton Practice Facility Fall 2009 $25 million
Hilton Renovations Fall 2010 $35 million
    Phase 2
Football Stadium End Zone Project Fall 2010 $25 million
