    Paul Rhoads fail?

After Gene Chizik left, I keep reading posts of Cyclone Fanatics saying

"I knew he would do this"
"He wasn't a good coach anyway"
"He didn't even have a good defense at Texas"
"He could only win with 5* players"
    etc.

Then we hire Paul Rhoads and after a few days and numerous interviews, suddenly this new guy is a godsend.

Let me first say that I think CPR will be succesful.

However, I want to hear from you guys why he won't be succesful.

For instance: He has no collegiate head coaching experience, and JP should have hired someone with experience.

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

My reason as to why Rhoads may not be successful here - we have a long history of coaches not being successful here.

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

And the most obvious one too. I thought Gene would succeed here and he didn't.

I have no idea how Paul will do. I hope he wins, but we have absolutely nothing to base views of him doing well or poorly. It's all a guess and...hope.

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

paul rhoads will be more successful at iowa state than the last bozo we had coaching here.why? because he knows how to coach and recruit. his defenses at pittsburg and at auburn were stellar. tooberville got fired because he had a very poor offense at auburn. coach rhoads had a very good defense at pittsburgh and at auburn..coach herman spent 8 years under the spread master lawyer mike leach and had real good success at rice. i think you will see some speed with the new offensive receivers coming in and an improved defense under coach wally burnham.burham was very successful at USF with
one of the top defensive units in the country.i think coach rhoads has put together a very good coaching staff when you compare his coaches to what we had the last two years under the good ole boy coaches that chizzledick had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

Inexperience may hurt him, and perception of the program may hurt him as well. I do like that he surrounded himself with some older coaches and good assistants.

With ISU you always have to worry about not getting enough talent and not getting the right guys in your program. Always.

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

He has 2-3 yrs to show major improvement or the shine wears off. That is the sad truth.

Good news is that I think we will see that improvement with the foundation of players we currently have and the coaches that are on payroll.

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

    Let me count the reasons:

    Oklahoma
    Texas
    Texas Tech
    Oklahoma State
    Texas A&M
    Iowa
    Nebraska
    Missouri
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Colorado
    Baylor
    Utah (on sched)
    Conneticut (on sched)

    Is that enough reasons?

We operate in a very difficult college fb environment whether it be conf play, recruiting, fundraising, location, facilities, etc.

It will take some luck, very good coaching, player development, a few diamond in the rough recruits to get this thing back on track.

Believe me, I want it to happen.

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

CPR can be successful, just like GC could have been successful. The problem with Gene is he hired so so asst coaches and he basically gave up after the Baylor game, like he knew he had another job waiting............

    Re: Paul Rhoads fail?

    Success just got redefined.

When Chizik was hired, Success was winning the North and getting to Big 12 Championship games. We fell further than most fans thought we would. Because of this, success is now going .500 and getting to a bowl game.

Rhoads is not a godsend, and I think there will be growing pains. He's a first time HC as well.
