    State of Iowa Football

For those of you who missed it. This really made me mad because all they did was talk about Iowa. I know they have had more success but still it was a whole state thing talk a little about ISU and UNI.

    Re: State of Iowa Football

Trying to be impartial here, but honestly, what would ISU have over Iowa in those categories?

Best player - Kinnick (won the Heisman)
Best team - Iowa finished #2 in the nation
Best game - #1 vs. #2, going down to the final 2 seconds.... hard to pass up
Best coach - all time winningest coach in the state of Iowa.... again, hard to pass up

like i said Iowa probably has us beat in all of these things but he could have said something about Seneca and something about UNI being very good.

Probably could have. I haven't been watching these segments, so I dunno if they did this one any differently, or if they really did give ISU the cold shoulder. But it sounded to me as though they just talk about those categories, and don't make it a point to necessarily talk about other teams in the state if they don't measure up?

Whatever though, it's not like anybody has really been paying attention to these guys. I wouldn't think too much about it.

    Couldn't agree more Southern.

ISU's claim to fame is being a stumbling block to programs of national prominence, not BEING a program of national prominence. Yes, I'd like that to change. Yes it bugs me to not be mentioned, but I'm happy they even had an ISU helmet on set.

    Re: State of Iowa Football

I haven't seen this but I'm not surprised that Iowa got all the pub. It is disappionting though that they wouldn't discuss ISU's history of football futility which in and of itself is an interesting story. It's been nearly a century since our last conf. championship yet we've continued to compete in a top tier conference that whole time. Look at the freakishly bad winning (losing) percentage vs. OU. The heatbreaking losses that kept us out of the B12 championship. The great '71 team that might have made a big splash nationally if not for NU, OU, and CU finishing 1, 2, and 3 in the polls. The tragedy of losing Earle Bruce in 1979 which signalled the divergent trajectories of the two state of Iowa D1 programs. The list of all-star former coaches...

And with all that we still have great fans who love their Cyclones. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

edit: Don't forget about Troy Davis getting screwed.

There's plenty to talk about @ ISU despite the lack of a winning percentage:

    Jack Trice
    Pop Warner
    The Dirty Thirty
    Johnny Majors
    Earl Bruce
    Troy Davis
    Cy (The best mascot ever)

Hey! ISU has had lots of great coaches, it is just that they were assistants and went to other schools to win national championships (and super bowls).

Seriously though, given those categories I can't really argue against the choices.

If you watched the whole show, and not just this 2 minute clip, they talked quite a bit about ISU.
