    RTN football flashback

Was just flipping through the channels and 5.2 was doing one of their WOI flashbacks and it was of a story they did prior to the 1994 ISU football season. (Sorry, I looked, but not surprisingly I couldn't find the video online.)

A few thoughts. First, Jim Walden really seemed to dislike (hate) the media, which likely didn't help his cause to remain after 1994 season.

Second, they mentioned Troy Davis as the recruit "everyone is talking about" and it really got me thinking about all the players we have come in here that fall into that category. The point is that we never know when we are going to hit the jackpot. We've talked about Darius Reynolds and Bo Williams in the same way at some point or another. I just gives me some hope for the future to know that one of those guys may be our next Troy Davis.

Last, we have come a long way in ISU football from where we were in 1994, but we have a long way to go. The improvements we have done to the stadium are important and a positive step, but it seems like we are in a similar funk to '94. I want to see ISU get forced to make improvements out of necessity like we had to in the late 90's-early 00's. Bowling in the end-zone would be nice, but the fact is we don't have to do it right now, if we did it would be done.

I see us in a similar position as in '94. Much like in '94, we have now brushed off a coach that didn't fit at ISU (and the results showed) and have returned to what has worked in the past. The positive is that our team is much more talented overall now, a Troy Davis now could make a 2 win team a 7 win team (kind of like Iowa last year).

If Bo or Money is anything like the talk, ISU could go from an expected 4-5 win season to 7+ win season. Just some late night rambling.

I honestly think AA is going to seriously shock people this season. He seemed to improve every game last year. We will go as he goes this season.

    I think you're both right.

Neither did Troy Davis in 94. Let alone play much.

There was a game against either Western, Central, or Eastern Michigan where Troy Davis tore up in the first half, just to see NO playing time in the second. We lost. I was upset. Walden's mug made it on my dartboard.

He cannot do it alone. He will need the Oline to improve, and more plays from the WR. AA also needs to work on little things like looking off the safety. Under Herman, I expect more improvement than in the past.

I hope you are right, because I think just the opposite. I think he is going to struggle a tad in the new offense and people are going to start grumbling about letting Tiller give it a go.

Similar to Meyer's last year with AA on the bench.

I really hope I am wrong and AA excels beyond our wildest dreams.

If he struggles, IDK if it will because he is new to the offense, but rather his skills are insufficient for the new offense. Maybe that is what you are saying.

Pretty sure it was Western Michigan that year for parent's day. When we lost that game we knew it might get ugly.

Scary thing is that the team was talking about a bowl game before the year.

    Re: RTN football flashback

I remember that game where Davis played so well in first half and got no carries in second half and I don't even think he did many carries the rest of the season. Best back on the roster standing on the sidelines. I guess that is why Walden is on the radio and not coaching anymore.
