    Stay hydrated, people!!!

I drove my neighbor to the ER yesterday evening after I watched him collapse while mowing his lawn. He suffered heat exhaustion, and if I didn't see him, probably would have suffered much worse. He got at least 4 IV's of fluid pumped into him.

    Hydrate!!!!!!

Good point. I know at Annual Training, my NCOs and I would travel around with giant water mugs to remind people to hydrate. I'll be doing that this morning.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

    Re: Stay hydrated, people!!!

I had to mow yesterday as well. Smaller lot and mostly shaded. But still - what usually takes me about an hour moved closer to 1:30+. My wife came home as I was finishing up - took one look and just plainly stated "you look miserable". Summed it up quite well. Turned the hose on myself for a few minutes and felt oh so good.

Came inside, cleaned up and got on the scale. Dropped 6 lbs from yesterday morning.

    Dangerous out there.

I cannot wait to mow when I get home tonight.

Speaking of hoses......true story. About six or seven years ago, I was watering my front yard on a really hot day, and a college age gal jogged by and asked if I would mind spraying her down with the hose. My response.....really? So I sprayed water up in the air in her general direction, and then cussed myself the rest of the day for my unpreparedness. Not to mention was cussed by my girlfriend who was watching through the front window.

Same thing with me. I was planning on working out last night, but after mowing the lawn, I didn't need to.

When we did mission trips to Appalachia where it was 95 and more humid than here, we always did the gallon challange where you had to drink a gallon of water between the times of 9-4.

Well, my highlight wasn't remotely that good.

But there were a couple of joggers and dog walkers that went by - and the dogs were most assuredly not holding the leash. Gave a bit of motivation to stay out there and press on.

I was originally planning on riding my bike down to the ICubs game tonight for a bit of exercise - about 15 miles round trip.

Now I'm thinking that's just plain old-fashioned stupid.

I did that during the course of a baseball game in high school. Heat index was 116 when the game started at 7 that night. Catching was chilly....very chilly.

And please remember hydration does not include drinking beer.

I put 22 miles on last night from 6-7:30 and once I got going it wasn't bad at all. I make sure to drink 2 bottles usually on that distance when its hot out and make sure to immediately drink 32 ounces when I get home.
People need to realize if they are outside and doing this type of thing and not peeing much during the day, they need to drink a lot more water.

A parent of a soldier in Afghanistan told me that they are made sure to drink 3 gallons of water a day and no beer.
