    USA Soccer

The Us Men's National team is currently playing in the Confederations Cup in South Africa (an 8-team "warm-up" for world cup 2010) In their first two games, the US lost 3-1 and 3-0 to Italy and Brazil respectively.

Today, the US won 3-0 over Egypt and Brazil beat Italy 3-0 to allow the US to advance to the semi-finals after tying Italy with 3 points.

The first tie breaker was goal differential which was also even and advanced on a second tiebreaker of goals scored.

They move on to meet Spain Wednesdat at 1:25 CT. Spain won the 2008 Euro championships.

I wanted to watch the games, but the use of the "vuvuzela" made listening unbearable. Thankfully FIFA is considering banning them next year when South Africa hosts the World Cup.

This is going to make a lot of US Soccer fans really "unhappy" (imagine that - advancing to the next round of the Confed Cup making fans unhappy).

The reason for this is because Brian Bradley is pretty much universally hated by all US Soccer fans that know anything about the team. You thinkn that some fans were being rough on Dan McCarney and/or Greg McDermott as far as having them fired - this is about 10X worse - there are virtually no US Soccer fans that want Bradley to remain the head coach (read the message boards to any of the game recaps on ESPN, CBS, or FOX Sports websites), and were hoping to be humiliated by Egypt, but were assuming that with humilating losses to both Italy and Brasil that the US would be eliminated - no dice. Fans are going to be unhappy.

Agreed, the geniuses running Odyssey of the Mind in Ames gave all the kids these things on the first day. It was like a soccer match in Ames for 4 days straight...

Yeah, confusing the US Soccer head coach with the former Center for the Tampa Bay Lightning...

    Re: USA Soccer

The Confederations Cup is a tournament that shouldn't even exist. None of the teams care, and the stadiums are nearly empty even for the home team. Many of the matchups have been lousy, Iraq versus New Zealand?

The Gold Cup every other year is also about as irrelevant as any soccer tournament enywhere.

If Bradley is such a bad coach, how did the team win today? Their only recent losses have been on the road or to powerful teams, right? The team will sleepwalk past the World Cup Qualifying, then lose to a bunch of better teams at the World Cup next year. Thats where they are, they aren't going to beat any great teams anytime soon.

Wow, I can't believe we advanced after 2 bad losses. Thank you Egypt for beating Italy.

Most likely something like that. They have definently had much better looks and have easily beat the US on ball control so far in the match. Altidore's goal was very lucky. Hopefully luck can put them through to the next round, I don't think our skill alone will be enough.
