    Your Lawn Preference

I was driving through town the other day in some various areas and noticed it seems like often people in given area mow their lawns alike. One area will do the "angle cut", another area will do more of a "straight parallel line" look and in some cases...you see the good ol' fashioned "spiral pattern" where they start on the outside and drive in a circle until they are done in the middle.

So, it made me wonder, what is the more popular mowing preference at the moment?

If you're not the keeper of the lawn, what would your preference be?

I do circles and I have no reason at all for doing it that way. Just the way I have always done it.

I go north and south in straight lines with one mow and east and west in straight lines for the next mow.

    Re: Your Lawn Preference

I voted other as I will alternate what I do. One time I will go north-south, the next east-west, and then mow it on an angle.

I have heard that you are not supposed to cut your grass the same direction everytime to help it grow and spread.

I rotate 4 ways, front to back, sided to side, then both diagonals.

And If I'm in a mood - I'll do circles, just for the lines.

Mine is hard to do diagonal since I live on a corner lot. My front and back yard are about equal in size.

I've also tried to mow a lot higher this year but my lawn never looks as good as my neighbors who cut it real short. I figure I'll be better off in the long run though when we stop getting so much rain.

Circle of death........that's hilarious, and it's the way I've always done it. I just recently figured out that it goes quicker in straight lines though.

I have heard the same thing. I angle cut the front and back and alternate between Southwest to Northeast & Northwest to Southeast direction. The sides are somwhat narrow, sometimes I angle cut them and sometimes I do the circle of death which is actually more of a rectangle of death.

I do this too. Although I say I do it because of the above I really do it because of the way the checkerboard effect looks. I used to live in a house with a lone maple tree smack dab in the middle of the front lawn so I would do the spiral of death around the tree pretty often.

    Re: Your Lawn Preference

I do the spiral of death, but wife & son do the back & forth. I can do it in less than 2 hours & one tank of gas. They do a better job, but are less time & fuel efficient.

I'm the same way, usually so parallel lines 1 way then the other then from time to time angles. Keeps the lawn looking like it is always mowed in the same direction each time.

Lines going up / down, then side to side the next time, out of sheer convience

Angles look cool but thats harder to do right
