    Kansas City/St. Louis trip help...

I'm trying to plan a weekend to go down to KC and then head over to St. Louis and back up to Des Moines. We have a few places that she wants to go to, and so we are going to do that, but I need input on what else we could visit, eat, do that will be fun and fairly in-expensive.

We plan on leaving on Thursday night and staying in Kansas City.

On Friday we are planning on going to Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun. Has anyone seen the specials on the side of Pepsi cans around Des Moines, and if so where at?

On Friday night I was thinking about going putt-putt somewhere around the amusement parks...does anyone have any great ideas?

On Saturday we are travelling to St. Louis and she wants to do the Anheuser Busch beer tour for sure, and she doesn't want to do the Arch thing as we have both done it before.

On Saturday night, we don't have anything planned for St. Louis so if you have any ideas on what there is to do or where to go.

Thanks in advance and by the way it's me and the ol' lady if you didn't catch on in the post

KC - Eat at Jack Stack Steakhouse in the Power and Light District...tasty BBQ

St. Louis - Go to a Cardinals game :-)

Also, I think the zoo in St. Louis might be free. If you like zoos, it's worth looking into.

There's not much to do in St. Louis other than seeing the arch and going to Rams/Cards games. Six Flags is pretty fun though.

Not sure if it's your thing or not, but we were impressed with the Botanical Center there.

We liked the Lewis and Clark exhibit at the base of the arch better than the arch itself.

Union Station in St Louis is pretty cool. A few restaurants in there - so it may work well for dinner time activity. I thought their zoo was pretty good as well.

Re: Kansas City/St. Louis trip help...

Been to St Louis many times

If you get to St Louis in the morning and get the tour at AB done first, I'd recommend spending the afternoon in Forest Park--zoo, golf courses, museums. Cool stuff. If you're there on a Saturday w/ either a night Cards game or no Cards game, take a stadium tour. $10/person I think, very cool. Get to go into the pressbox, club/suite areas, dugout, on the field. No tours if it's a day game though, and depending on tour time w/ a night game, some areas (dugout, field) may be removed from the tour.

The tours at Busch Stadium and AB take about an hour each (w/ free samples at the end of the AB tour!)

Go to Ted Drewes for some Frozen Custard. Nothing better in St Louis for desserts! http://teddrewes.com/Drewes.asp

"The Hill" neighborhood is an old, historic Italian neighborhood with awesome restaurants and cool homes to look at.

Soulard, the area around AB, is the oldest neighborhood in St Louis, pretty cool to walk around and check it out.

Central West End (just east of Forest Park) is my favorite area, full of young 20-30 year olds, very trendy. Lots of bars, clubs, etc. Old mansions and private streets, mixed in with high rises. Mostly young doctors, med students and law students from SLU and WashU, and young professionals w/o a family. Tony LaRussa lives in the neighborhood in season. Also check out "The Loop" on Delmar, a few blocks north of Forest Park. Movie theatre, shops and stores, restaurants.

This. Also, there is a very good museum on the other side of the river to the north (I believe Alton, IL) that is excellent as well regarding Lewis & Clark.

You may also consider strolling downtown East St Louis to window shop.

I'll 3rd the Jack Stack with a stop at Kelly's Wesport Inn for a 44oz beer.

Re: Kansas City/St. Louis trip help...

If I were you I would scratch KC/StL as destinations and head for the Lake of the Ozarks. There is a water park there, tons of mini-golf, go-carts, great BBQ (Half-Sauced mmmm), shopping, Randy's frozen custard, and boating. You leave thurs, return sunday and you wont kill half a day driving on saturday. If you make some phone calls i bet you can get a real good deal down there. The traffic at the lake seems to be down this year.

While we're at it, I should add that the north side of St Louis has some fabulous family-friendly activities

in STL, go to Big Daddy's in LaClede's Landing. It is a fun bar with beer pong and flippy cup tables ready for people to play

Not sure if it is still there, but there was a comedy place downtown I believe called MUDDY WATERS. The place was hilarious. Double check to make sure if it is still there.

Food wise in KC you can't go wrong with Strouds, Jack Stack, Arthur Bryant's or Oklahoma Joe's
