Who's the best? Chevy ~ Ford ~ Dodge...

I am going to buy a pick-up truck. (used)
I have never owned one before, so I'm seriously depending on my "phellow~phanatics" to give me some sound advice on what would be a wise choice and investment. Thanx!

Re: Who's the best? Chevy ~ Ford ~ Dodge...

I have owned all three and I currently own a Ford F350. I bought it because it was an absolutely amazing deal and it fit my needs. I have been a Chevy/GMC guy all of my life (my Dad works at a Chevy garage). I think GM does an incredible job with the ride of their trucks. There is absolutely no comparison when comparing them to a Ford and especially a Dodge. So I would cast my vote for Chevy/GMC, especially assuming you are going to be looking for a 1/2 ton truck.

I love my Dodge but at the same time I hate it has well as there always seems to be something wrong with it. My next truck is either a Nissan Titan or Toyota Tundra and I will hope my grandpa doesn't roll over in his grave.

I loved my Ram. Can't say anything about comparing ride qualities as I've never driven the others, but it's the best looking IMO.

which is by far the most important attribute in a truck.

Re: Who's the best? Chevy ~ Ford ~ Dodge...

I've heard nothing but great things about full size Toyota pickups, and if you're looking at a year or two old truck, the Tundra was the first of the current generation of trucks to be redesigned, so your dollar will stretch a bit further in terms of having a "current generation" truck.

As far as investments go, pretty much no vehicle is a good investment, but Toyota is very tough to beat for resale.

Which is, of course, the reason that anyone ever purchases a pickup truck.

I own a Honda Ridgeline too and absolutely love it. If you aren't using it for a farm or construction truck you might give them a look.

Aside from that, if you are just asking about the 3, I say Chevy hands down. I have never liked Ford trucks so I would put them last. Also drove a 97 Dodge Dakota and that thing was junk as well. Chevy's are reliable and a lot easier on the eye to me anyway.

**** yeah. I had little use for a truck, I just want it to look cool.

I'm a Chevy guy, but I think they are all about equal these days except for the Dodges.

They all have + and -'s when compared side-by-side. If it were me, it would be between a Chevy and Ford. Toyota's and Nissan's are nice, but to me they are still not quite as rugged as the Chevy/Fords (meant to be used as a truck.)

Well if you go by the assumption that the truck that was designed the latest has the best engineering in it, the current generation of trucks will be better than the previous one.

For instance, the current generation of Tundras has an optional 6 speed automatic, while the previous generation had a 5 speed.

If you're looking at a 2007 truck, for instance, the trucks you would be looking at were last redesigned in 2004 for the F-150, 2002 for the Ram, and the Chevy really hasn't been redesigned since 1999.
