How about a neither option for those that would gladly go back to the way it was before.

Before as in Rose Bowl = Pac 10 vs. Big 10?

I thought they went to the BCS system because in the old system there may not be a "true" national champion, how would the "old" system solve that?

Well, if we got rid of bowls, ISU would never have a postseason in football. But i'd rather have playoffs to determine the true national champion.

There isn't really a "true" national champion with the BCS system either, just a more agreed upon national champion.

Some of us don't care about solving that. We would like to just go back to the way it was...and not have 347 bowls. Cut it back to about 16 - 20. Leave good enough alone.

That I'd agree with, 6-6 shouldn't go to a bowl game.

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually don't mind 6-6 going bowling. In today's competitive environment, there are plenty of worthy 6-6 teams years in and year out. The problem is bowl tie-ins can elevate a less worthy 6-6 team to a bowl.

I'd be absolutely fine with an 8 team playoff--so long as we still had the majority of the other bowls we have now. I don't get why people complain so much about the other bowls--if you don't like the International Bowl or the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl....don't watch them! But I'd think that if ISU got a bid to the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl with a 6-6 record, I'd definitely go. Pretty sure I wouldn't be the only ISU fan to make that trip either.

    Re: BCS vs. Playoffs

The Mountain West's elite, namely Utah and BYU, possess the talent to do the same. Just ask Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide, who were a game away from playing for the national title this past season, but instead were throttled by Utah in the Sugar Bowl (31-17), as the Utes capped off a 13-0 season with the win.

I think this is an interesting point, without the ESPN coverage, Utah came in and beat Bama.

There will NEVER be a "true" national champion in NCAA D1A football without destroying it and building it from scratch. There is simply too much inequity in the system, with too short of a season and too little information from which to go from.

The people who want a playoff really want a playoff amongst BCS teams. Nobody wants to watch Tulsa get destroyed by Ohio State. They want to see Texas play USC.

I'd prefer to see the whole notion of a "national champion" go away, and just focus on making what we have better.

IMO, "They" went to the BCS system to consolidate a large chunk of dough and keep it in the hands of the biggest conferences. It had nothgin to do with improving the way a nataional title was arrived at.

Div 1 football is the ONLY NCAA sport where a champion is not crowned by a tournament - the only one. In football, there is even a tournament in all other divisions except Div 1. It's too damned bad the big conferences can invent the BCS and prevent a real championship. Money is the driver and it ain't going to change.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
