Antwon Oliver gets rated by ESPN

Looks like they finally got around to grading him.

"Oliver's a 6-5 athlete who sprints up and down the floor and can finish above the rim. He has the versatility to play multiple positions on the perimeter. Having said that, he really doesn't have one particular skill he excels at. He's a bit of a 'tweener. Most of his baskets come on slashes to the basket and the occasional mid-range jump shot. He should make it a priority to work on his outside shot. Defensively, he can guard all three perimeter positions. His athleticism makes him extremely valuabel on this end of the floor. Also a terrific rebounder who can start a break by himself."

Sounds good to me. This kid, along with the rest of the team - maybe we can start to win.

Sounds like Rashon Clark. We could use another one of him.

My thoughts exactly. You don't have to be a huge scoring threat to be a highly important player.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

Hopefully, he'll be able to RS this season and put on a solid 15-20 lbs.

86 is a pretty good rating in my book for someone who doesn't excel at any particular skill.

I think he's a much better shooter and rebounder than Clark was. Oliver shot an obscene percentage from beyond 3 (it was around 50 percent, but I don't remember the exact number) and Clark never averaged 13 rebounds a game in high school like Oliver did. I know Clark was a good rebounder for a 6-5 wing-type, but he still averaged less than 6 boards a game for his career with his best year being 6.1 a game as a senior.

They don't even have the slash to the basket in common. Clark couldn't get to the basket off the dribble very well on his own, but this guy apparently can ... at least in high school. We'll have to see how well that translates to the college game.

I'm not saying Oliver is going to be lights out better than Clark or even that he's going to have anywhere near the successful career Clark had. I'm just saying I don't see all that much similarity in their games, other than the dunking and athleticism.

Way to trash someone who is a true Cyclone on many levels.

Clark is the only player in Big 12 history to get 1,000 points, 100 steals, 100 blocks, and 100 3 pointers in their career. When Oliver does that, we'll talk.

Clark also averaged 6.8 rpg in Big 12 play, which was 8th in the conference... Not bad for a guard...

    Clark wasn't a guard, he was a 3/4.

You are right, clark was pretty limited offensively, but like you at least in HS. HS is completely different than college. Thats why i don't like comparing the 2 in any way.
