I finally found out how nervous I could get

after being in the Marines and playing some important football and baseball games in my life I now know what nerves are.

My son got up to bat today in a single elimination tourny. The bases load and 2 outs. I was so nervous. The score was tied 2-2 in the last inning. So it was a 3-1 count on him. I was pacing back and forth like an idiot. Then the kid walked him.

Horrible feeling to watch an 8 year old like that.

I know what you mean. As long as he tries his best I treat it like a learning situation and try to remember that this situation does not define who he really is.

Re: I finally found out how nervous I could get

After going through baseball, flag football and youth basketball, I still get nervous the day my boy has a game. As luck would have it, he's not even a little nervous. This fall is tackle football, so the cycle will start again.

I go through the same emotions. It's nothing for my son. I think it's just because:

1.) You want your child to be successful
2.) You cannot control the situation. (Your son can, so he's not nervous. At least that's what my boy tells me.)

At least you have the ability to watch.

My sister played games at the highest levels (state tourneys, club nationals, NCAA championship). My mother would always go to the games, but more often than not would go out on the concourse or a hallway or whatever when things got down to the nitty gritty.

I felt bad for her, but kinda funny to witness, actually...

I can't wait to have kids so I can live through them like my dad did with me.

My kid isn't of playing age yet. Do you feel the urge to walk up and punch the pitcher's dad when he's yelling "no batter, no batter, no batter..."
