OFFICIAL POST-CONCERT THREAD: Coldplay at Wells Fargo Arena, 6/12/2009

Just got home from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for an awesome concert by Coldplay. This is the biggest concert I have ever attended and I was very impressed by the quality of the music, the special effects, the venue, and the people in the facility. I talked to JR4CY and both Keith Murphy and Andy Fales were in attendance. I can't wait for the next big concert in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena.

Thank goodness this concert is done...all I've heard all week is "Coldplay is in Des Moines." It's over. That's the past--we gotta move forward. It's run it's course

    1) I like Coldplay
    2) Even though I like them, if it's the best concert you've ever been to, I'd assume you haven't been to many.

I'm not pretending I have been to a lot. In fact, it's my first in an arena. It's a good one to have as my first though.

Cool. I kind of think concerts are a waste of money, so i only choose bands/artists are high up on my lists of favorites. And i really havent been to many sooo.

I've been to a bunch. I'd say the best I've been to was Fall of 2007 back in mpls at First Ave: Brother Ali, Ghostface, and Rakim. It was an awesome show (despite Ghostface being there whom I'm not a fan of). Seeing a legend like Rakim in a smaller venue like that, right in front of you was fun. What I really liked about the show was the the Rhythm Roots All-Stars opened for about 30-45 minutes. They also played all of the beats with live instruments for all 3 artists (instead of having a dj). It just made it a fun show.

Having Rakim freestyle for 10-15 minutes at the end is pretty much what put this over the top. I can't really describe it, but Rakim is what really got me into hip hop. I missed his hayday for the most part, but I was listening to the 1980s stuff in the early 1990s. To have someone who had that impression on you come to your hometown for the first time and put on an amazing show really did it for me.

I've been to some bigger concerts at bigger venues. I will say when you first go to a big concert you get all wowed by it and think it's the best time ever. I've seen Aerosmith, Prince, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Cube, and many others in the big arenas and they've been fun. But if you can get to a show that has someone or some band that you respect a lot, in a venue designed for music, it's an awesome time.

As a hiphop/rap fan I just couldnt see myself enjoying a concert of that style of music as much unless its maybe kanye or common thats just me though.

First Avenue (and 7th st. entry) is a cool place for concerts.

Back on the topic, I am curious about people's thoughts on this concert. I am glad it was a fun time. If my wife was going to be in town, I would've taken her for sure!
