Our 4 Big 12 losses are by average of only 8 points

This team really isn't that far away. With the defense we have been playing, and Coach Mac at the helm there will be quite a few more wins before the season ends. I look for Dodie to begin playing about 28-30 minutes a game with McIntosh giving him brief rests. Holding OSU to 17 points in the first half at their place is very impressive. Let's go shock the nation tonight!

Another thing to look at is that we were ahead at halftime in 3 of those four losses. With more experience, those halftime leads will turn into victories.

Seems to me that we are just one, maybe two, recruiting classes away from becoming a really dangerous, dominant team in the Big 12.

I think next year we will be a dangerous and dominant team in the Big XII.

It pains me to watch these guys work so hard on defense and then go down to the other end and throw up absolute bricks, even on the FT line. Teams have been doing a nice job of covering up Taylor, but he and everyone else suddenly can't shoot the ball. I still think they are going to have some good shooting nights and will stun a couple teams this year.

Come on buddy, shouldn't we at least get ourselves a winning Big XII Conference record before we start making outlandish predictions like that?

Whats so outlandish about that prediction. Everyone comes back, except for Jessan. We have another year to learn under McDermott and he finally gets his own recruiting class. We wont win the Big XII but I would expect us to be in the top 5 and have a 10-6 or 9-7 record. You tell me what is so outandish about that...Buddy.

Re: Our 4 Big 12 losses are by average of only 8 points

Regarding the shooting woes, Coach said his players needed to spend some time before or after practice shooting the ball. Ala Jake Sullivan, like 300 shots a day. The thing that really hurts for me at least, is the losses to K State at home and to a very poor Colorado team who has only that win in the Big 12. My preseason predictions had both of those as W's and if that had happened, we would still be in line for a possible NIT invite.

Re: Our 4 Big 12 losses are by average of only 8 points

I think we could contend for a top 4 finish in the Big 12 and a NCAA berth next season. We only lose Gray but add Brackins, Thompson, Garrett, Steiger, and maybe Boozer if he's not redshirted. That's a pretty deep team all the sudden with some more size and this year's kids hopefully adding a few pounds in the offseason and 1 year more expirienced.

    Post: Jiri, Brackins, Thompson, Marsden
Forwards: W. Johnson, Clark, Steiger, C. Johnson (plays post as well)
Guards: Dunson, Taylor, Garret, McIntosh plus W. Johnson can move to the 2 some if we go big and Boozer is a possibility too.

I think Boozer and C. Johnson will be reshirted. We will be VERY deep next year.

Dangerous, I'll buy that. Dominant? Possibly, but not any time towards the beginning of the season. We'll have too many young, inexperienced players to dominate teams, at least consistently. That being said, I could see us dominating Nebraska or Colorado

I think you guys are putting a lot of faith in freshman next year to take us to the promised land. I think a top half finish in the big 12 and a possible NCAA birth would be outstanding next year. We won't be the only team in the league improving.

Re: Our 4 Big 12 losses are by average of only 8 points

Yes, I think we are two years away from being that dominant team. I see us winning some games we shouldn't and losing some we shouldn't next year, but being very good come Big XII tourney time. Gmac's system will be firmly ingrained at that time, enough to get a Big Dance bid and get experience and momentum leading into a monster following year.

I, too, agree we will be deep next year, but every year I think that there seems to be defections or academic casualties, etc. that changes that. Let's hope for stability because the future is indeed bright for this team.

Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Re: Our 4 Big 12 losses are by average of only 8 points

When people start throwing out words like "dominant" it might be time to scale back expectations a little bit until we start to see what will happen. KU and Texas will likely have better talent than anyone else in the conference for a while. OSU, A&M, and KSU are ahead of us right now and will be tough to overtake. Mizzou likes their coach a lot, OU could rebound, Tech still has Knight, Baylor isn't a gimme anymore.

My point is, is it possible for ISU to win a Big 12 title? Sure. But a lot of other teams are thinking that too. I don't know that anyone will be dominant in this league anymore.
