Is the 2001 Independence Bowl included?

    Heisman trophy, it would seem.

Sounds about right Alabama and the NCAA would rather turn over 21 wins than put Alabama on probation or reduce scholarships. Bama does bring in big money for the NCAA

Re: Bama Football may forfeit 21 Wins

Does it really, really matter? It's not like they didn't actually win those games. Always seems like a silly punishment to me. Do you think any of the players in those games now feel like they didn't actually win?

I wish the NCAA would dish out the death penalty to USC. It'll never happen but you have to be blind to not realize that there's some shaddy stuff going on out there.

I wish I could agree with you here, but frankly, I enjoy watching them smack around the Big 10 in the rose bowl way too much to hope for that!

So why did they fire the Auburn staff. They won. Rehire the last staff.

Textbooks vs. Reggie Bush. Reggie won the Heisman. No brainer. You do not tarnish the Heisman. Textbooks are much more serious.

    Free Alabama.

Re: Bama Football may forfeit 21 Wins

My take on this - if you've ever seen the movie "The Firm" (or know Al Capone's life story) you know where I'm going with this.

(For those that haven't seen it) In "The Firm", the FBI is going after a Memphis-based law firm that happens to represent Mafia-entrenched clients. There is suspicion, however, that the law firm is much more involved with the mafia than just being its members lawyers. The FBI basically extorts one ignorant lawyer into doing their dirty work for them (and in the process kill whatever chance he had of maintaining his career in the law field) - and as a result he finds them the mail fraud charges that will put each and every one of them away for life. However, the FBI doesn't want this because it's not "sexy" enough - they want to convict these guys of the big time charges that they cannot prove instead of thousands of little charges that will lock them up forever because in the end it's kind of a PR nightmare - it looks like a cop-out because of the appearances of not being able to convict them of the major crimes so they decide to take them down with the little stuff.

This is exactly what this situation with Alabama feels like.

Is this really how you want a big-time school like Alabama to go down? Because football players received textbooks as inappropriate benefits? Do you know how "weak ****" that sounds?

What you want a school like Alabama to go down on is something heavy - serious recruiting violations, paying the athletes to play there, giving the athletes/parents vehicles or other high-end items to play there, etc.

Granted, the textbooks are NCAA violations as well, and the rules should be enforced. But to me this more has the feel that the NCAA can't (or won't) go after Alabama for the serious charges and instead is "settling" to hit Alabama with the "lesser" charges.

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
