    Finally Buying a New Phone!

So after many months of deliberating I have decided to finally buy a new cell phone. Ok so actually my old one stopped working so it forced me to get a new one. I'm getting the HTC Touch. Any suggestions or tips from any of you that have one now or have had one? Was going to get the Touch Pro but just can't make myself spend that much money on a phone right now.

Don't let your kids baptize it in the toilet like mine did.

I'll make note of that although I have a 6 year old daughter who is pretty good about knowing what she should and shouldn't mess with when it comes to dad's stuff. She will always ask before she picks up anything that is mine.

I would highly recommend the HTC Diamond (new version of the touch) or the touch pro. They are much better phones then the previous generations.

The diamond and touch pro are essentially the same phone, the difference is the touch pro has a real keyboard.

I have said this in another thread too but I almost never use the keyboard on my touch pro because the touch screen works so well.

Re: Finally Buying a New Phone!

I've heard that the diamond 2 and the touch pro 2 are both on the way. Has anybody seen any details on those two phones? I've also heard that several more google android devices will be here this year.

I finally got a chance to have some hands on time with a Pre, and I would have to say it surpassed my expecations. I think I will take a long look at that one when it comes time for me to get a new device.

The quality and capabilities of smart phones are really taking off all of a sudden.

I have US Cellular so the HTC Diamond is not available through them yet. As far as the Touch Pro it is $150 more than the Touch after all the rebates and being this will be my first smartphone i would rather not spend that much until I understand all the technology involved with them. I don't want to spend $320 for a phone where I only know how to use half of it's capabilities. I just had a Krazor so am not looking to upgrade that much yet. After I get the Touch down my 2 years will be up and I can move on to the next generation of phones. Whatever that may be at the time!

If you are able to cancel your contract then you can sign a new 2 year contract with Verizon and get the Touch pro for $99 after rebates. I don't know who you are with and if it is Verizon, I don't know how this would work. But for the price it may be something to look into.

Also, has anyone tried to use wifi on equipped phones without getting a data plan from their carrier?

Damnit! That would have been nice to know last week. The day my phone stopped working i went in and the guy said I could pay my $50 insurance deductible and then wait 3 weeks to get a new one or since my contract was up I could just buy a new phone. I didn't have the cash at the time so I had him sell me a penny phone until I got paid this week. You have 30 days with US Cellular to return and exchange a new phone so I paid the penny, got my contract renewed, and am returning the phone today to get the Touch.

Re: Finally Buying a New Phone!

I've been with US Cellular for over 10 years now so it's really hard for me to move on to another company. It's crossed my mind a couple times but I just can't make myself do it.

If you go that route just get an iPod touch and a standard cell, imo.

I have the data plan on my phone but I also use the wifi. The internet and e-mail work fine I could test out other features for you if you had a specific question

I have been with USCell since...1994, I think, for my personal cell. If you're mainly in Iowa and don't travel it's probably the best deal for the money and for the coverage in most cases (I know NW of Carroll area things get bad for them).

However, Verizon is pretty comparable now in coverage and you get the benefit of its network existing outside of Iowa and the midwest. That's what my work phone is on. If I moved networks I'd be most inclined to go Verizon, personally.
