We can make our Season against Iowa

Rated #26 out of #96 games for the Big 12 football games. So an intrastate game is worth more than any Big 12 game for us? We better start winning to get some respect.

I call BS. The only thing winning that game does is shut hok fans up (for about a second) and get us a game closer to bowl eligibility. Personally, I don't look at 2007 as a successful season.

Re: We can make our Season against Iowa

An Iowa win certainly doesn't "make our season," so I agree that the writer isn't giving us any respect.
It is however, without a doubt, our biggest game.

Outside of Iowa, people do view it as a true rivalry game because we win games against them that we shouldn't.

Why is it your biggest game? It doesn't get you any closer to winning the North. Unless of course you would rather beat Iowa instead of winning the North. If anything here are 8 bigger games for the team:

    Missouri
    Nebraska
    Colorado
    Kansas
    Kansas St
    Oklahoma St
    Baylor
    Texas A&M

As an Iowa fan I will take 2002 every year. Lose to ISU but win the Big Ten and get a BCS bowl. You can lose to your instate rival but if you have success in your conference and go to bowl games you will still get the recruits. That is why conference games are bigger IMO.

Re: We can make our Season against Iowa

Ugh. Just take a logical look at this one guys.

    Running through the schedule...

vs North Dakota St - I-AA opponent. Not exactly burning down the house to buy tickets.
vs Iowa - Nationally ranked, competitive rivalry, intriguing matchups, viewed nationally as one of the better rivalries.
@ Kent St - Road game against a MAC opponent we could very well be the underdog in.
vs Army - Hooray. Hosting a service academy. Not necessarily Must See TV.
vs K-State - Getting drunk together in the wine cellar of the North.
@ Kansas - After our meltdown last year does anyone think we can win this game?
vs Baylor - Two perennial cellar dwellars. Could be a good matchup, but again, not burning down the house to buy tickets.
@ Nebraska - On the road in a stadium where we have not won in 30 years. Stop the presses for that one!
@ Texas A&M - Still in that wine cellar.
vs Oklahoma State - Nationally ranked team at home most likely. Anyone remember that kick return record from last year because we allowed 9 touchdowns?
vs Colorado - Moving from the cellar up to the storefront. Not that intriguing.
@ Missouri - Like leading a sheep to slaughter, most of the national media see this as a game played for posterity.

No one is saying the Iowa game is our "make or break game" or "super bowl", except some of the people who started this thread. All those rankings mean is how intriguing are the games on a national level. To be completely unbiased here, our game vs Iowa is the most nationally intriguing game on our schedule.

Iowa is biggest because it's the team we least want to lose to. BTW, it's YOUR biggest game too.
I also go to games at Kinnick with some of my Hawk friends - including Ohio State, Penn State, and Mich. The anticipation and buzz there is at its highest - by far - for the ISU game. Quit kidding yourself.

The rational fans don't disagree with you here. The only reason I remember we lost to you in 2004 is because it was in Kinnick and the home team has won every game since then. Really all I remember consistently from that season is the fact we were playing for the Big XII North in the final game. That is far more important.

Don't get me wrong, beating our in-state rival is high on the list, but the smart fans will trade that for a Big XII Championship any day of the week.

As of right now, K-State is the most important game of the season. Start of the Big XII season and is a measuring stick to see where we stand.

That said, Wesley did a superb job with his titling of yet another thread...

I think Wesley is making the point that we need to get some conference wins before people start taking us seriously and I agree.

I also agree that beating Iowa does not make a season. 2007 sucked.

Sadly I think there are plenty of ISU fans who would rather beat Iowa but lose every other game. I just cannot understand that mentality.

I guess you must have missed the Ohio St game at Kinnick in 06 with your buddies.

Sorry but the Penn St game at Kinnick last year was bigger than the ISU game at Kinnick, but I guess you must not have attended that one either.

Or how about the Wisconsin game in 04 that finished under the lights and Iowa needed a victory to win the Big Ten. That was a pretty big game. Did you make it to that game?

I hate to break this to you but the anticipation and buzz is always higher when Penn St, Michigan or Ohio St come to Kinnick and sometimes Wisconsin as compared to ISU. Maybe not for your Hawk buddies but it is for me and the group I go with.

I went to my first game at Kinnick last year, and it was the ISU/Iowa game, and I thought the buzz beforehand was downright lame. It was a crappy morning though.
