    Summer vacations

Is anybody jazzed about their summer vacation plans?

I certainly am. I'm bicycling Ride the Rockies June 14-19 and then the Bicycle Tour of Colorado June 21-27. Both are scheduled to leave Glenwood Springs on back-to-back weeks, enabling me to go from the completion of one ride to the beginning of the other.

Not so much......my wife took a new job earlier this year, and won't have any vacation days for a while, so I'm setting up a bunch of extended weekends with my days off.

Fishing trip to the Black Hills over the Fourth and 1 week in Colorado at the end of July. We're singlehandedly trying to end this recession with our credit cards this summer.

Also heading to the Black Hills with the family -- more kid-oriented tourist spots though. Looking forward to it since we haven't had an "extended" vacation for a few years...

Where are you fishing at? My wife , son and myself rented a pontoon on lake Sheridan and caught a bunch of rainbow trout 3 years ago. Some on Mepps spinners but most on live bait. I don't fly fish but there were lots of great places to go.

Did that trip a few years ago...really enjoyed it! Enjoy it! Beautiful scenery...and how can you not enjoy time spent with the family? As hokey as it sounds...there is never enough time spent with the family!

The Black Hills might be the best place for a reasonable family vacation (read this as not Disney expensive). I've gone there for several years fishing with my dad and brother-in-law. This year we are taking our kids. Typically we fish Rapid, Spearfish, and Castle Creeks, along with Roubaix and Deerfield lakes. Mostly fly-fishing and some spinners/live bait. It's one of those places that not many think of as a fishing destination, so the traffic is usually light. A few years back, a local told us they just stocked Roubaix lake with large Rainbows and Browns. Caught more big fish (20-24") that day than I can remember in a late May snowstorm. It was awesome.

    Re: Summer vacations

I had planned a 2 week trip to Atlanta, Smokey Mountain National Park and then Blacksburg Va. at the end of May but unfortunately work got in the way. I still took a few days and rode out to The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Rode through the Black Hills and The Badlands on the way back.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to take some decent time after Labor Day. This summer at work is gonna be pretty hectic.
