AMES, Iowa When Christy Johnson was named Iowa State's volleyball coach in December 2004, she came to Ames with a plan for turning around a volleyball program that was in the midst of a decade-long slump. Prior to Johnson's arrival, the Cyclones were 13-167 in Big 12 play over the past nine seasons. Still, Johnson saw Iowa State as a sleeping giant, a place where volleyball could thrive.
