need basketball drills for the summer..

hi again, I want to know from the web community what drills will help you in basketball in the offseason?

I have got offers to play at the Y and at a local league (kind of like Capital City except for high school kids). I'm a post player that would like some drills for that. I averaged 13 pts a game in JV, and now am on the way to starting varsity.

Any tips would be appreciated, (also am looking to play basketball at Dana small college in Nebraska)

thx also a sophomore turning junior :) it would be a dream playing at a college even if only 10 people go to games

Find somebody you trust that can help you with foot work...90% of the battle if you're tall/strong enough.

Footwork. Footwork. Footwork. Develop your low post most moves. Be able to play with your back to the basket as well as facing up.

If you're able, find a defender that will challenge you and practice your moves on him. Drop step both ways. Turn around jumpers. Pump fakes. Up and unders, etc.

Also, practice quick put backs. Be able to keep the ball high and quick spurt jumps.

thx for the post kg, the main problem is my old coach is retireing so I don't have anyone to work with me..sad thing is my RIVAL school offered me to play at the league not my school.

I also don't know who my coach is for next year yet.

Only if I had camps to go to, that would work.

Just make sure when you're working out; that you're doing things you can use in a game...practice at game speed. Work on weaknesses: off hand, ball handling(keep your head up); can't see the floor if your head is down, work on turning over both shoulders, with both hands.

Re: need basketball drills for the summer..

idk if your looking to spend money or anything but i know there are a ton of videos that top coaches put out, many of which involve individual drills and most run for under $40 i think

    http://www.championshipproductions.com

on the website it lets you browse through the different videos and most even have a short clip of it. I know there are different people on there ranging from Coach K, Tom Izzo, Bob Huggins etc. The write-up on each video's page should give an idea as to what kind of stuff is in each video

Also, Championship Productions is based in Ames, why not support a local business?

Get 2 balls and a couple rebounders....Set a ball on each block. Going hard: pick up the ball score it, move to the next one...(Rebounders put the ball back on the floor for you).

Do the same thing, but reverse layup...Make sure you're explosive, try to drive your knee(non jumping knee) to your chest. The higher your off knee gets the better.

Can work on squaring up on the catch if your more of a jump shooter...need a passer . Walk the down the lane(if there is a defender, walk the defender down the lane) get close, small bump and sharp cut, catch and squre with knees bent (shoot, pass, or dribble from this position)...First step is very important(make sure you're going somewhere.
