    Hawkins to coach receivers

I don't see how Colorado will make it to a bowl game, let alone a 10 win season.

Hawkins will instruct defensive coaching intern Ashley Ambrose in his transition into becoming a college assistant coach during 2010. Ambrose is a former 13-season NFL veteran who also served as a coaching intern with the Atlanta Falcons in 2006.

"I was educated as a teacher and spent the majority of my professional life in the trenches as a teacher-coach," Hawkins said. "My first year at Boise as head coach, I also coached the tight ends. I am extremely excited about rolling up my sleeves and being a position coach again."
Hawkins becomes the first Colorado head coach to also serve as a position coach since Bill McCartney, who directed the Buffaloes' quarterbacks in 1993. Hawkins technically replaces Eric Kiesau, the former Colorado receivers coach who was promoted to offensive coordinator last month after Mark Helfrich left for a similar position at Oregon. Helfrich also coached the quarterbacks, which Kiesau will now do.

Hawk is really going to regret that 10 win comment. Even if he wins 8, which would be a good season considering, he'll get hammered because he didn't get to 10.

    Re: Hawkins to coach receivers

Seriously, Colorado was last in the Big 12 in total offense last season and the one thing they were able to hang their hat on last year, their defense, took some huge hits this offseason. Their offense should be better and the overall quality of the north is down, but I still see them having a hard time making a bowl.

    Re: Hawkins to coach receivers

I had them down as the surprise team in the conference. Now I don't know. Any team that lost their entire O-line to injuries would have struggled offensively. They were begging for walk-ons. They actually had a lot of talent on that O-line before the injuries. If they come back healthy they will be pretty good, but something doesn't seem right with that program. Could be a big year for Hawkins, he kind of needs to show he has them in the right direction.

    Re: Hawkins to coach receivers

The Buffs And Hawkins overconfident and arrogant? nah...never...

They were a 2-6 conf team last year along with K State (I'll let you figure out who they did better than in the north.) And now they are a 10 win team? Really? what amazing thing happened in the offseason that brought this on? A #57 recruitment ranking (10th out of 12 in the big 12 with only Iowa State and KSU scoring lower?) Not to mention they have away games upcoming this year with West Virgina, Texas, Oklahoma State as well as home ones against Nebraska, Kansas, & Mizzou. Not to mention the rivalry game against CSU and a not automatic non-conf game @ Toledo. I think they would be EXTREMELY lucky to get an 8 win season. 10 is out of the question.

Can someone quote or link to the "10 win comment"?

    Re: Hawkins to coach receivers

It's the Big 12 North. They could easily win 9-10 games. Part of the reason they struggled last year was because they didn't let Hawkins stay at QB. They tried playing the young, dual thread kid who can't throw. Once Hawkins returned to QB, they played fine.

Looks like his old asistant coordinator was pulling most of his water at Boise State.

    Re: Hawkins to coach receivers

They may of had a #57 rated class but the year before they were #32. There's some talent on that team. It was impossible for their offense to do much with all those O-line injuries, plus currently they just don't have a D1 qb. If their O-line is healthy and somebody steps up at the qb position they could still be ok. Actually as a jayhawk, playing at Boulder scares me. With KU's schedule it would be pretty easy for them to overlook CU and end up losing that one.
