Quality Big Televen Baseball: OSU trails 32-0 in 5th

Final score of the game was 37-6. I guess they gave up 24 runs to Georgia yesterday.

Seriously, unless the start of the baseball season is pushed back until March (which will probably never happen) we will be lucky to see one team from the Midwest in the CWS every 10 years. The north is at way too much of a disadvantage.

I wouldn't say the North is really at too much of a disadvantage with Oregon State winning it back to back years in 06 and 07, but I think they may have been the exception rather than the rule. I know there is always a couple Midwest teams that make it or get close to making it every year but none can really maintain a consistent program like the southern and western schools.

No doubt northern teams are at a disadvantage, but the season should not be pushed back to accomodate them. That would mean at least half of the season would be played in the summer, when most student-athletes aren't even in school. Something's wrong with that picture...
    Baseball is an outdoors-and-sunshine sport.
I never see any southern schools in hockey's Frozen Four either...

Re: Quality Big Televen Baseball: OSU trails 32-0 in 5th

I think Oregon State is a bit different, because they aren't too far from California, where the best talent is. Plus, their climate is isn't quite the same.

As far as the argument regarding pushing the season back, you could look at it a couple other ways, too. Players would be in class more (regularly through February), and post-season play would take place when they are a ways out of school, so finals and missing class wouldn't be a concern.

It'll probably never happen, but it has been talked about. There are movements out there now among prominent coaches to reduce the number of regular season games that can be played from 56 to 52.

Looks like a big ten bowl score.

Classifying OSU as a northern team is a mistake, and most student-athletes are in school during the summer.

It has nothing to do with a northern school, it's because they are in the Big 10. If you are a midwestern kid, even in Ohio, you would rather play in the Big XII, SEC, ACC or Big East at a northern school so you can play against better teams/players.

Oregon State sure is a northern school; they started the season on Feb. 20 and didn't play a home game for an entire month - in the same boat as Big Ten teams like Iowa.
If OSU can do it, anyone can.

the students are going to have to travel for most of the regionals and super regionals anyway, so if most of the students are out of school they might get better attendance.
