    options for internet in Ankeny??

Tried Mediacom, they blew as most everyone knows.

Been with Qwest for a year and a half, the first year was perfect, not a single complaint. Then on Christmas day, and everyday since we lose our connection. Ive called a million times and today had a tech come out for the second time. He flat out told me it wasnt anything in our house, it was Qwest's problem. I was too far away from something and they havent advanced whatever fast enough.

I dont care about speed so much, unless im playing PS3. But there are hours on end we cant get online because there is no DSL signal going into the modem.

So if anyone has any suggestions other than these two companies I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I have mediacom and love it. Its spendy, but crazy fast.

What speed do you have through Qwest? Can you get slower than what you have?

I Would love the same opinion for Waukee. Right now I get DSL and phone for like $75, but I could care less about having a home phone. I looked into internet only with Mediacom and it is $61 just for monthly cable only so it wouldn't be too different then what I have. And obviously for the DSL I need a basic phone

Actually, you don't need a basic phone. You can get DSL without a home phone. You might want to look into that.

You could get a dedicated T1 line.

If you don't mind spending around 500 bucks/month for 1.5 mbit service, that would be a good option :D

If you get DSL through anyone else, it's still Qwest. So to answer your question, there is only Mediacom and Qwest.

Not really true. Qwest is essentially providing the wires between your house and their central office, where they are, more or less, connected to the ISP's equipment. That is a simplification, but essentially how it works.

You are still constrained by the infrastructure between your house and qwest's central office, but there are differences between different ISPs, and it isn't all qwest.

I've had the Qwest 1.5 down DSL package for 2 1/2 years and have had no problems with it.

there are wireless providers in cedar rapids, not sure if they have them in ankeny or not.

And by wireless I am not taking sprint or verizon, they actually put a little dish on your house to receive a wireless signal. Your location determines what speed you will get.

I use Iowa telecom. I have DSL and have only lost it once in two years and it was because of a server upgrade. I'm happy with them and their tech support gets back to you quickly. I live in the NE side of Ankeny.

Good for you... 4 years ago where our house is now was a cornfield. So, you probably live in an area where they have worked all the "bugs" out of whatever is going wrong for our neighborhood.

We've had 4 neighbors complain to us about the exact problem we are having.

Why do I get frustrated visiting CF sometimes? Because people chime in on questions with a statement that means nothing to the conversation... Do you want a cookie for your good Qwest performance or your living in Ankeny too? /rant

Hum, maybe I am a bit touchy today!

Just in case you didn't know... I'm a girl.
