    Bing Bong: is Microsoft dead?

Well, Microsoft is a long way from being dead. Nevertheless, "Bing" has to be the worst name for their search engine that anyone could think of, and I just couldn't resist the title.

Their department of naming stuff has sucked for a long time.

    Remember Microsoft Bob?

Yes - and be careful what you say as they'll take it as a personal challenge.

Lots of search engines have stupid names though, do you think the first time someone heard the name Yahoo! for a search engine they were like "That is the best search engine name I've ever heard."?

It is, but at least it has mathematical connotation/meaning, which is the bedrock of search engines. What the heck is Bing?

Are they going to come out with one that is twice as good, called Twin Bing?

I'm pretty sure that Bing is a type of cherry, which is also the bedrock of a good pie. So clearly, there is some reason behind the madness.

So that means it's bing cherry pie-scented incense you're putting in the bong?

    Bing released - google killer?

    Bing (link)

Well not released, they're calling it "preview".
If you don't know the history - it's Microsoft's attempt to regain some market as a search engine. Overall, good or bad, I think it will fail because people won't be able to get past the part where it's Microsoft.

But on to my opinion after a couple minutes messing with it.
I like the video search. Returns a bunch of thumbnails, if you hover over them it starts playing the video as a preview.

The main search though, it'll take a while for me to decide if it's better. Can't decide that based on one search. Though after a couple test runs, it was good enough I may divert some of my searches there for the next couple days.
