Proof recruitng rankings are a scam

We know they are not completely accurate. This article suggests recruits may be rated higher by committing to certain coaches:Recruiting: Star system has flaws, coach says | GoGamecocks

First of all, whoever said recruiting rankings are completely accurate anyway. Second of all, I thought you needed facts to prove something right or wrong, not the opinion of one person.

    SC coach:
“I can take a three-star and make him a four-star, and I can take a four-star and make him a three- or two-star with the contacts I have,” Lawing said. “That’s how ridiculous recruiting on the Internet is. I took Chris Culliver (USC safety) from a three- to a five-star in three weeks. All you’ve got to do is talk to the right people.”

IMO they are pretty accurate from about 1-100, from there on out it doesn't really matter.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

While they may not always be accurate, I am sure I can find 10X more information that proofs they are more accurate than inaccurate

I don't disagree with that. This is more about when someone is complaining about school x having the #35 best class while ISU has #45, and claiming we can't compete because we got out recruited. Once you get past the top players and top classes, it gets pretty ambiguous. If the actions of linked article are common, it undermines the creditability of the rankings, and suggests a coaches track record of identifying talent is more important than "stars".

Would it be more believable if it were in print?

Re: Proof recruitng rankings are a scam

For individual players, reruiting rankings are somewhat of a crapshoot.

However, the sum of the recruting rankings of a class or team full of players is typically indicative of on-field success.

Sure, you can find diamonds in the rough or 4* players that don't amount to squat, but the team with all 4* is going to beat a team of all 2* nine out of ten times.

Even though we know it can't ever be totally accurate, its no secret that certain teams with good recruits like Ohio State, Florida, USC are winning every year. I'd call that proof that they are pretty accurate to a certain degree.

I think they are pretty accurate. take a team like iowa state who doesnt get great recruits and our record shows. then take a team like usc who gets great recruits and there record shows.take a team like iowa who gets decent to good recruits and there record shows every year. they are right to a certain degree.
