    Amanda Zimmerman

So.. I was just wondering how big of an influence Amanda will have on the team next year, she committed to ISU as an 8th grader so she is probably the earliest committed recruit ever. I saw her play in the state championship game for Ballard she look impressive. Zimmerman has some size being 6'2" and has a solid build. I'm hoping she can make a big impact Power Forward. It also helps out alot that her and Aus have already played a season together were they helped Ballard to the State Championship game.. I really hope that Amanda has a HEAVY influence on Taylor Greenfield decision to committ to ISU :)

    Re: Amanda Zimmerman

I have not seen Amanda play, but did watch Prins in her state championhip game. From the descriptions I've read and pictures I've seen of AZ, I'd have to say that with those two we will not be pushed around in the paint as much as Nicki and Jos were. Those two will probably split time in the post, but I think the sleeper in this freshman class, if she can be called that, could be Chelsea Poppens.

I just don't see Zimmerman as a 5. I suppose she could play some 5, but I think her natural position is at 4. I know the idea of a 4-guard offense has been thrown around, but I still expect Zimmerman and Prins to both be starting when the season rolls around (with Poppens and Lightbourne backing them up).

Zimmerman has good low post offense and Prins isn't afraid to play high post, so we could do some interesting things offensively...

I think that they will have an immediate impact down low, nice freshmen post duo mixed with Aus Bolte Stuckey and Williams at the guard spots it seems to be a brigth future

Yeah it's all "home grown" too

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

Is it just me, or do we seem to be getting better recruits again. It just seems like our current players, current commits and our prospects are getting better and better over the past couple of years.

Maybe it is because no one else in the northern mid-west/ north division has been very successful over the past couple years. ISU has been the best major team over the past 4 seasons from Illinois to Colorado and Kansas to Canada.

    Re: Amanda Zimmerman

I think the 4-guard system is something we could see, especially early in the season. BF has been pretty open about starting spots being up for grabs in the past, and I expect no different this coming season. Remember, he created some plays for a 4-post system for the senior night game against Kansas this past season and we jumped out 12-2 in the first 3 or 4 minutes. I would not be surprised to see some creative 4-guard sets.

Most of the talk about a 4-guard offense comes from the end of this article:
Go Cyclones - ISU wants to move past transfers

The Cyclones return four of their top five guards from last year’s 27-9 Elite Eight team and have the depth to overcome losing Rockall and Yackley. Before the transfers, the coaching staff already figured it would use some four-guard lineups this winter.

Now they expect they’ll have to use it a little bit more if 2009-10 is to be a success.
I don't see it happening a whole lot. After Lacey/Bolte/Williams/Stuckey, the only other guards are Mosman, Florzak, and the two incoming guards (Cole and Schroll). Cole and Schroll are in a good position to get good playing time, but in my mind the rotation will look something like this (at least by the end of the non-conf season):

    PG/G Lacey 32 min/g
    PG/G Williams 28 min/g
    G Bolte 32 min/g
    PF Zimmerman 22 min/g
    C Prins 22 min/g

    Bench
    PG/G Stuckey 25 min/g
    PF/C Poppens/Lightbourne combined 20 min/g
    PG/G Mosman/Florzak/Schroll/Cole combined 19 min/g

That's a total of 64 minutes for the posts: 24 minutes of two-post offense and 16 minutes of four-guard offense. I think that's reasonable.

    Re: Amanda Zimmerman

Everything really depends on four things:

    1. How well will the incoming posts play? If Prins, Zimmerman, and Poppens all prove to be capable of Div I basketball right away, then we'll probably see mostly two-post offense.

    2. How well will Lightbourne play? We know she is capable of around 8 minutes per game of decent post play (see the end of 07-08 season). If one or more of the incoming posts need more time to develop (a likely scenario) then she'll need to be able to play more like 15 min/g.

    3. How well will the incoming guards play? Cole seems like a pass-first PG. If she can handle the speed of the Div I game, I could see her being a legit option off the bench right away. I don't know what to expect with Schroll. I know far less about her than the other three freshmen since Prins is a Top-50 recruit and Zimmerman and Poppens are from Iowa.

    4. How well will Mosman and Florzak play? Last season they were squeezed out by the three freshman guards, but two of them are gone and the other is sliding into Ezell's place in the rotation. At least one of these two will probably see some regular time off the bench.

    Re: Amanda Zimmerman

imo, Schroll and Chelsea are both pretty raw at this point of their development, so I look for them to struggle getting meaning PT until their skill set begins to match their athletic ability.
