good mention of b-ball team in SN.

I got the Sporting News Magazine today and I looked and by the very back there is a good college basketball article.

Iowa State has been mentioned before in the PREVIOUS mag issue.

Anyways, Mike DeCourcy picked 4 teams that will be sleepers or NCAA tourney teams this year that sucked last year. Iowa State was one of the 4.
It mentions that G-Mac did a good job in recruiting this year.
The article says about us that Brackins coming back is huge (no crap).

It also mentioned that with G-Mac's sophisticated system that it will help with a veteran team rather then a group full of freshman and sophomores.

SN has been giving us good marks lately so I shall continue ordering.
Also, it's better then ESPN, I had ESPN and the content is horrible. SN has more content and better writers (I'll be expecting that $200 check in the mail tomorrow).

The other 3 teams were Ole Miss, Texas, and Georgetown.
    Pretty good list of teams.

We don't need refs, but I guess white guys need something to do. -Charles Barkley-

Did he have South Dakota State going to the Final Four?
Because their system seemed to be working better than the great Mcdermott's oh so sophisticated system.

I could understand your posts of hatred for Coach Mac more, if you could give me a idea of your credentials and accomplishments in the world of Coaching Basketball......?

    Please......

You've had one week to come up with something witty to criticize the original post and this is the best you can come up with!? Your post is blatantly biased and lacking originality. If you dredge up a week old single-post thread just to criticize it you better at least make it worth my time and give me a decent laugh. Throw me a bone here.

Re: good mention of b-ball team in SN.

i must say that the writer put it well... i think there are systems and programs that can plug in 5 top 150 freshmen every year and be successful. i think greg's is one that, no matter your talent exiting high school, you need a couple years to grasp it. no systems can handle the turnover we've had the last 3 years, but i think GMacs system is worse at handling it than others would be. bottom line, with craig returning and the majority of our guys returning, i agree that we could be a sleeper and sneek into the tourney.

I don't get his criteria. Texas had 20+ wins and went to the big dance. Georgetown wasn't great, but at least made the NIT. If that is the definition of "sucked last year", I think we would have traded our last three year results for those!

For us to go, we must have 22 wins in the bank. That means owning the non conference.

Well I agree with what the writer said, we return players with experience in Mac's system and he is bringing more scoring threats into the fold. Until they hit the hardwood in the Big Twelve who really knows for any team, but you got to like what you see on paper just hope it translates onto the court!! If it does then I think we can sneek in and be a sleeper. I just hope this team seeks revenge and is just plain nasty on the court and buries opponents and does not let up if they do so!!

Re: good mention of b-ball team in SN.

I believe about anyone can make an impressive highlight real of themselves, so rarely do I pay much attention to them...but if you just take a look at Gilstrap's highlight reel...he can do things that a wing at ISU hasn't been able to do in a while...

And if you've seen Colvin play, you know that he is more explosive than anyone we had in our backcourt last year. I do think it will take Colvin a while to calm his game down, like it does most talented freshmen perimeter players, but as soon as he learns that you can't always go for the homerun, he'll be a good player for us.

Mac needs to tell his team to bury teams in the early season to get a good feeling about how victory feels. This includes teams like Houston Baptist, Drake, and even Iowa. The game that will really tell us the legitimacy of our team will be against the Panthers of UNI.

Drake on the road I think will tell us a lot also.
