I hate to be critical of a player but..

The only thing Corey McIntosh can do is get the ball past half court. He is undersized and not a big 12 player. He has trouble with turning the ball over and passing it to others at the right time. I could go on and on like he is not a 3-point threat or a scoring threat. But what i am getting at is he is hurtin us.

My two lineups i would like to see on the floor

    1. Mike Taylor
    2. Dodie Dunson
    3. Rahshon Clark
    4. Wesley Johnson
    5. Juri Hubalek

    or

    1. Mike Taylor
    2. Wesley Johnson
    3. Rahshon Clark
    4. C. Johnson, R. Marsden, or J. Gray
    5. Jiri Hubalek

I like this post, and kudos for you posting it despite the inevitable scorn coming from the irrational homers of this site. Corey McIntosh is not a legitimate big 12 point guard. He would've been more fit for Cal State Northridge or Pepperdine. Unfortunately we don't have a better option at this point in time...Mike Taylor is too erratic to start at point. If he can take this year and build on it, maybe he could gain some confidence and enough experience to become a Terry Woods type of guy next year. That's the only hope I have for him, but it's only a slim hope.

I'm starting to be more and more comfortable with Dodie Dunson in there at point and Taylor as the two guard. Dunson showed tonight that he can at least get by his man a couple of times.

McIntosh played worse tonight that he normally does. It's looking like we need Taylor in there to get some guard penetration.

Did you guys hear about how our guards arent fit to play our style from the commentators? That got me to thinking about Diante next year, he might be as valuable as Brackins in their rookie campaigns. From what ive seen, he can really dictate the tempo.
Im trying to remember that this season is a wash and i shouldnt get to high or too low, but its too hard not to.

Re: I hate to be critical of a player but..

I agree we definately have a weak spot at PG with McIntosh... however... I do think he brings a few things to the table that aren't reflected in the stat books. From what I see... he's the guy yelling at everyone to come into a huddle to talk about things during dead balls and getting everyone's head together. I would definately like to see our point guard being a little more productive... at least at the assist statistic... but I know the guys on the team respect him and I see him hustling and setting a good example at least.

EDIT: I'd like to see him drive more with some plays designed for somebody to crash the hoop or follow behind for him to dish the ball to.

I don't understand why we have so many guards entering the program. I'm assuming that Staiger will most likely be a shooting guard and not a small forward. So in two years we have, Buckley, Staiger, Eikmeier, Garrett, Dunson, Jacobsen, Boozer. There is only 80 minutes that can be split between the two guard spots and dividing it between 7 guys will be tough. Any thoughts????

Its just shocking to me how Corey was the California JUCO player of the year. Either he is a great JUCO player or the JUCO talent in California isnt that great.

Perhaps we have a 3 guard offense in our future. With Wesley being as good of a rebounder when he's under 200 pounds, I think McDermott may try to make him

A lot could depend on player development. One thing appears to be certain, though. And that is we'll have some depth.

He's athletic, but it appears that his lack of size is limiting his ability to show it off. he's had some nice drives and athletic finishes this year, it's just that he doesn't get in positions to do that very often. I don't dislike him, he seems like a good guy with the right attitude. If he can keep his head up, I think he can eventually make the transition to D-1 and contribute a little more than he is now. Patience is definitely a virtue.

I disagree that hes hurting us.. hes not ready for this level of play, but we don't have anyone better for it this year.. thats why I don't bother complaining about him.. it is what it is.. hes playing at his level and thats the best that we have... same reason I stopped complaining about Rex Grossman.. although on a much more frustrating level with rex..

Re: I hate to be critical of a player but..

I would like to see Wesley Johnson in there and go big, keep dunson comming off the bench. I really like this kid but he is just getting squeezed because of his position. i think Clark is athletic enough to slide to the 2 and a i think you can easily get it done with the Johnsons alternating at the 3 and 4 on possesions. You would still have gray and Marsden comming off the bench, and Dunson and if needed mcintosh at the guard positions,.

Re: I hate to be critical of a player but..

I actually see Clark more fit for the 4 (as he often played in high school). He can't create his own shot of the dribble or handle the ball that well that is needed for a 2 guard. I think that Wesley is a 3 who could play a 2. McIntosh is probably a very nice young man and carries himself well on the court, but I agree that the point position is killing us this year. We need someone who can hit the 3 once in awhile and penetrate more. He seems to give the ball to Taylor to bring up the court a lot. I am also excited about Diante Garrett and think he will be a star. However, we shouldn't put so much on his shoulders for next year as he will only be 18 and adjusting to Big 12 play as well. I definitely think next year will be better with Alex Thompson helping and Brackins arrival.

Re: I hate to be critical of a player but..

Since the start of the b-ball season, I have been telling anyone who would listen that the POINT Guard position was killing this team! Then on the radio comes Blair Kerkoff and first thing he says about ISU's season is that the point guard position has been...well KILLING this TEAM and this SEASON!

I hope that Greg finds a good point guard for next season or at least someone who can run his offense, because our fortunes will not improve until we find a good point guard!

Now that I've ranted...I feel better!

Come on Clones roll those Cowboys over and PIN'EM!!!!!!!!!!
