Marty Tirrell Back on the Air!

Sorry if I missed a post on this but this is interesting: Tirrell will debut radio talk show from dealership | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

Man he must really kiss some major behind at Toyota of Des Moines to get this arrangement! Needless to say I will still be listening to Matt and Miller in that time frame. Ironic how he's competing against his former partner...

I wonder if the reason he went independent was due to the non-compete clause. There must have been something written in that allowed him to "syndicate" a show to stations as long as they don't employ him.

Even if this does happen on June 1st I don't think Matt and Miller have much to worry about.

I wasn't a big fan of Matt at all on BS590. Miller, imo, is ho hum. But I'd take that duo over Tirrell and Co. easily.

I'll give Tirrell 2 weeks before he creates some kind of controversy that has no merit.

He's probably easier to fire under this arrangement. That way, 1700 could pull the plug at any time, for any reason.

Re: Marty Tirrell Back on the Air!

    From the article:

Broadcaster Marty Tirrell may be returning to the airwaves in Des Moines under an unconventional arrangement.

But Tirrell said he won’t be employed by Citadel Broadcasting, owner of the station, but rather will rely on advertisers, including Toyota of Des Moines, to pay for the air time.
I don't know what's so unconventional about it as this is no different than the Iowa Cubs, Chops, Energy, and Barnstormers "buying" the airtime for the radio broadcast of their respective games.

Same can be said when AM 940 was all sports a few years ago as the Des Moines Radio Group retained ownership of the actual radio station and broadcast studios were set up at The Cub Club. The on-air staff were employees of the Iowa Cubs and the Iowa Cubs sold advertising to pay for the air time.

Edit: IMO, the competition will make both shows better. I'll be listening to both, when Matt & Miller are on a topic that doesn't interest me, i'll flip it over to 1700 and vice versa.

Why do they always make it sound like Marty is the victum?
