What athlete lives up to the hype the most?

We always talk about overhyped players, but I wanted people to submit who they think has lived up to their hype.

Person that comes to mind for me is Lebron James. He was hyped big time and is considered one of the top 2 players in the leauge now.

Top 3 players probably... but yeah, he lived up to it.

Carmelo has also. Peyton Manning has, Evan Longoria has, tons of guys have... it's easier to do a list of people who haven't.... (freddy adu, joey logano, ryan leaf...)

James for sure. I'd say add Tiger Woods to the list. He was called the next Jack Nicklaus when he was 18. Hasn't disappointed.

I think it's fair to say Tiger actually exceeded the hype. No one expected what he has done.

Agreed, the kid was on I think the Mike Douglas Show (correct me if I'm wrong) when he was like 2 showing how he was already good at golf. They hype started before we even realized it was hype.

I don't follow golf much, but the PGA is in big trouble when Tiger retires. They have made big strides with Tiger on the tour and the bottom will fall out without him.

Good thing you can play golf until you're about 90.

Smaller scale, but Mario Williams has.

I don't think there was much hype outside of Texas regarding Williams was there? The hype in that draft was all Reggie Bush.

Re: What athlete lives up to the hype the most?

Yeah, I wouldn't probably call Mario's situation hype, I was one of the few people that I remember liking that move on the boards and I got RAILED for it by the majority of Bush homers.

Hype in terms of living up to a number 1 pick.

I wouldn't personally define that as hype, but I can see where once you're the #1 pick then there is hype, so in that light...I would agree he is definitely not a bust and proving to be a good pick.

However, I have a sliding scale mentality with draft picks and determining whether they are busts or whether they indeed live up to their picks. Basically, if you're drafted in the top ten you better have a decent crop of Pro Bowl caliber years when it's all said and done.

I would want to see more out of him before I consider him actually worth that #1 overall, but he seems to be on the way.
