We might be better off, but it's not because Johnson left.

I agree. You cant say you are better off when arguably your best player leaves the program. We are not better off, because we could be better..

Probably the dumbest thing I have ever read. That or when some people said that we were better of without Mike Taylor

We are better off for one reason, and its not Wesley Johnson leaving our program. Its Craig Brackins staying.

I disagree, too. You don't get better by subtracting Wesley Johnson. We would have won at least 5 more games last year with that 2nd consistent scoring threat, at least made it to the NIT, and had more momentum heading into next season.

We're on the right track now, but it would have been a faster track had he stayed.

Exactly. And a healthy Wesley Johnson could have easily been our top player last year. That is a big statement considering how good Brackins was. We would have had 2 of the top 8 players in the Big 12. Not a chance we are better off w/o Wesley

I don't think we should be too quick to discount the potential ' cancer effect ' Wesley might have had in the locker room. This same topic was talked about ad nauseam referring our new football coach and his approach to recruiting. FIRST ... we want players who want to play for Iowa State ! Fans seemed to like that. Wesley's a talented player but handlers or not, HE chose to not be a Cyclone anymore, right ?

Ames would be better off if Harrison Barnes transferred to Boone High School for his senior season.

Re: Iowa State Better Off One Year Later

Not sure how I feel about this article.

If there was indeed a downturn in the relationship between Johnson and the coach, then it could be argued that the team may have been better off last year without him. A disgruntled player, especially a player who had been or was a lead player, a captain like Johnson was, could have become a cancer on the team. So maybe that is what she is saying.

On the other hand, it would sure have been fun to see both Johnson and Craig on the floor at the same time. I think having Johnson there would have really opened things up for everyone, especially Craig and Lucca. Maybe if he had only stuck it out one more year, the relationship between coach and player would have improved. Winning a few games might have helped that a lot.

So, I guess I can see both sides.

I think you guys are missing the point of the article a little. She's not saying we are better off W/O Johnson but that we as a team/program are in better shape today than we were one year ago.

I didn't even have to read it and I knew that to be the point.

Re: Iowa State Better Off One Year Later

Yes.... one of the dumbest articles I've ever read.

At the end, she very clearly states that both ISU and Wesley Johnson are better off where they are. That's BS. ISU would be a LOT better off if Wesley Johnson were here... period!

Kinda like how the Timberwolves are better off without Kevin Garnett. The Wolves used to be in the playoffs nearly every year... now they are one of the worst teams in the league.

Re: Iowa State Better Off One Year Later

but there’s a good argument to be made that the former player and his former team are in better places now that they’re apart.
Does anyone believe this to be true? There is no way we are in a better place right now than we would be with Wesley Johnson on the team
