I like this quote from Rhoads

    From gocyclones.com:

"The biggest issue in recruiting isnít the guys that you donít get that you lose to somebody else; itís the guys that you get that canít play.Ē

Though I haven't thought of it that way, it makes perfect sense.

I wonder if that means the that guys that are not good enough to play or the ones that are physically unable to play because of injuries, or those that can play because of grades?

I would bet it is more those you think will be good, but suck. This poses an interesting question. Which Cyclone players were hyped coming in, but turned out to be a disappointing?

Most of the offensive line men. For example, those twins from Idaho or somewhere around there. They were going to be all that and a bottle of coke and they were pretty much busts.

Anyone recruited or coached by Marty Fine.

They were from Utah (their names are slipping me)

Then again, just because they are from Utah didn't automatically mean they were going to be a bust. I mean, we're all familiar with a guy originally from Utah. He went undefeated in his collegiate wrestling career...

It was definitely not a poke at Utah but those Fisher boys were gonna dominate day one and I do not recall them really turning into anything.

Of course coaching and technique matters. Maybe under a different coach they would have been great.

One of the Fisher boys was pretty good. Let's not forget that we had a solid o-line in 2004 and 2005.

Scott Fisher started towards the end of 2005 and most of 2006 (IRRC.) I think Paul was more of a reserve.

Actually, I think had the twins had a different line coach than Fine, they may have been more than okay. Fine was horrendous as an offensive line coach. Anyone know if he is still coaching Div. I football?

Scott wasn't a bad lineman for us at all.... Paul was a big reserve... and probably a "bust"

I will be the first to tell you that "towel waiver" was never really given a fair chance to succeed. Joe was one of my students when I was a TA for ISU last year, and I often heard about how Chizik & Co. was giving him the shaft. Just my $0.02.
