I wouldn't give GMac recruiting kudos for that one - since he wasn't able to keep him from leaving.

Not saying that McD did the worng thing...but why was Pomlee redshirted instead of Mann? I wouldve guessed that both would have been redshirted. doesnt really matter now..

Maybe Mac realized he missed on Mann right away and did him a favor by not redshirting him. Now he can use the RS in his transfer year.

Side question.....if Harrison Barnes was Harrison Barnes from Paducah, Kentucky, and not Harrison Barnes from Ames, Iowa, do you guys think we would have a shot at him?

You should give him your phone number, so he can consult with you...
god i would hope we would be in the running for the number 1 or number 2 player in the nation since he is an ames kid mom works for the university dad played for isu and we get to show up at every basketball game he plays in highschool and every open gym they have and summer camps.

No, but sometimes these things work out to give us a shot.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

I know, but what I was getting at is I think you can only give our staff so much credit for being in on Barnes.

If he was Harrison Barnes from Mason City, Iowa we wouldn't have a chance with him. It is the perfect storm of being from Ames, his father playing for ISU, his mom working at ISU, and him playing HS basketball with the coaches son that is what even gives us a shot - and a long shot at that.

Yep, and if Marcus Fizer's grandma didn't just happen to be tight with Beverly Floyd, he never would have come to ISU. Things happen from time to time that just don't make sense. Barnes just happens to be best friends with our head coach's son. That can't hurt our chances...

Re: Redshirt Right decision for Pomlee

Back to Pomlee. I watche him play one game at the capital city league last summer. He is definitely a threat to block shots. He will be a great second line of defense to come off his man and block a shot since he has long arms and can elevate. He needed work on his footwork and post defense skills since he had never really had to play much against someone as tall as himself in high school. He needs to learn the flow of the game at a higher level. He can do it and has four years to prove it.

I think that's pretty easy to answer. Pomlee is, in the eyes of the coaches, capable of playing in the Big 12, while Mann was questionable. You don't want to redshirt for a year, then find out you can't play at the B12 level, because you'll lose a year of eligibility at the D1 level by transferring (you can only sit out one year, unless hardship granted). So if Mann redshirts, then plays one year, and decides he's not going to get the playing time he wants, he'd be screwed out of a year of eligibility at D1.

Which really speaks, once again, to Pomlee's positive attitude towards ISU. Redshirting is a commitment to a program. Pomlee will be here four years, he's not going to be transferring. That's the biggest sacrifice a redshirt makes, no option to leave for more playing time, better team, etc.

I don't know what your watching, but 6'11 freshman with soft hands and good feet are a rare commodity. He showed a ton of promise for a freshman big man.

Hamilton will be a good Big 12 center as an upperclassmen. He was much more skilled than Homan as a freshman, though not as tough.
