    Anyone need a protein biochemist?

Just found out I'm losing my job at the end of the month. Thought I would try all avenues to find a job....even Cyclone Fanatic.

As soon as I figure out what a protein biochemist is or does I'll let you know if I'm in the market for one.

Re: Anyone need a protein biochemist?

Doesn't Merck have a manufacturing plant in Northeast Des Moines? They were looking for folks like you just a few months ago, on Careerbuilder.com

Seems to me they advertised the job for a long time, as if they had trouble filling it.

A protein biochemist eh? What foods should I eat to promote the growth of really big guns?

Seriously though, from a guy who also lost his job last year, good luck with your search.

Pfizer is in Kalamzoo, MI for vet med. All kids in their county get free college tuition if they maintain an average gradepoint.

Good chance Pfizer is going to close those plants once their acquisition of Wyeth is complete. Pfizer has plants that make the same product and are run much more efficiently. The Wyeth plant in Charles City should survive though as it does poultry meds which Pfizer does not do.

Do you have an interest in living in the STL?

My law firm might be looking for a scientific adviser with a similar background. Basically you would be helping us write patent applications.

    PM if interested.

ConAgra Foods in Omaha has openings for a Chemist and Sr. Food Scientist, and there's a couple openings for Managers in R&D as well. If any of those interest you, PM me.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into it.

I really want to get back to the Ames/Des Moines area, so this is another company that I'll definitely take a look into.

Thank you for the info. I'd really prefer to stay in the area as my wife is a huge family person. Also, my background is in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering as well as Biochemistry....don't have a lot of experience with Vet Med. Thanks again for the info.

I took a look at Wyeth my last go around and they usually have a few positions open that fit my background. Thanks for the suggestion.

Although I'm only a couple years out from my PhD, I'm pretty well rounded. Thanks for the link, I'll make sure to take a look.

StL has a lot to offer. A couple companies down there that I always look at are Monsanto and Sigma. In an ideal world, I'd prefer to stay in the IA/MN/WI area.

Write patents....ugh. Although writing patents is lucrative option for people with my background, I'd rather do research. That's one of the main reasons I don't want to be in academia - always writing grants and begging a broke government for $ instead of getting to the bench and doing some work.

If I don't have to deal with Husker fans, this might be a good fit.

Monsanto should be looking for people with their new soybean treatment coming out this fall. They should be a busy company.
