I would think Karl is the safest in Iowa. They seem to do pretty good business and are customer friendly.

I don't even think that the Hummer stealership has any on the lot, do they?

Depending on how the economy does or doens't bounce back, Willis may have a tough time. This is not a great time to be selling luxury ANYTHING...

They have 10 and one is priced at 75K. Now that is funny.

True but you have to have a Lexus/Cadillac dealer in this big of market.

Gotcha. I just drove by the south side and didn't see any (wasn't looking either). I've always thought that they were a joke. The only one that I would own is the H1 because it is truely a Hummer/HUMVEE.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but couldn't remember where I saw they were building.

Karl may need to cut back on the inventory a bit; they have a crazy amount...but should be fine. Their workers seem to be good with customer service.

Karl is safe, trust me I know. I have also heard those rumors and none are true.

In fact Karl just won an award a couple months ago as the top GM dealership.

Good, I'm glad to hear that. I'd hate to see the effect it would have on tax receipts in Ankeny.

Re: GM dealerships in Central Iowa

One half of GM dealerships will disappear. I would think the high volume/high profit, multi dealerships will survive. That leaves most of the rest as history. For instance, Lithia Motors has many dealerships nationwide and they mighjt get the nod just for being big. They have their own stock ticker name.

Saturn will probably be sold off to a foreign company so they may come back.

I might like Clemons chances better just based on the fact that I don't like those other two.

Wilson, I think, could be just fine.
    I agree on Wilson's.

    Whites should survive.
Whites seems to have a little bit of a captive market in the surrounding Ames area that will see them through.

Karl's has some massive debt load they are paying on their facility. I would think they can weather the storm but they need volume sales in order to survive. Not sure that is happening at the moment. Karl's son was not to keen on the old man building the Taj Mahal facility.

Shottenkirk just built a big brand new facility so I would think they are around for the long haul.

Karl and Bob Brown for sure, Holmes is mostly Mazda now I think. Ramsey is the one in trouble I think with Pontiac being discontinued.

    Holmes Mazda?

Ramsey has Mazda, Subaru, Buick, and GMC.

So I wonder if they say you must "close your dealership" if it's only for one brand. So for example, we know that Ponitac is going away but can Ramsey still sell Buick and GMC if GM tells them to "close".

Schottenkirk in waukee is probably OK, they just got done building a nice new facility, and seem to have been growing pretty well the last few years.

I'm going to guess that the DM area doesn't get hit that hard. I think to myself about places like Grundy Center that has 2 dealerships with a shrinking market. Those would be easy to cut.
