Just watched the GC video - time to update the resume

You gotta love this guy. Given time - he's going to bring us some great recruits. Based on what he said, i thing all the alumni and any of you that are about to graduate need to update your resume.

No longer shoud it say "The Iowa State University of Science and Technology"

It should now read "Iowa State Unversity - one of the greatest engineering schools on the planet"

Hell - I've got a business degree, but I love the way he put. Gotta love the Chiz!

I'm liking how when referring to the engineering school, they show a clip of the inside of the Design college. :) Everyone always forgets how we also have some of the best design programs in the country.

Re: Just watched the GC video - time to update the resume

I agree. Iowa State is great school and has been progressive. A lot of great programs. Could ISU add more programs?

I was talking to a Cardiologist friend of mine who graduated Med School from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMUCOM). He said there has been talk for the last 5 years the DMUCOM would somehow become affiliated with ISU.

He claims it would would be financially advantageous to both schools. It's complicated, but to hear him explain it, both schools would have access to more State funds. It's not just about ISU absorbing a bunch of DMUCOM Alumni who could potentially be boosters.

Michigan State added professional schools by creating a College of Human Medicine in 1964 and became affiliated with the Detroit College of Law in 1995. Michigan State is one of only two land grant colleges to have a Law School.

I'm drawing a few parallels between MSU and ISU because both schools are land grant schools and have a lot of similarities. What is different is that for 3-4 decades MSU had the vision ISU has had much more recently. MSU is also quite a bit larger with around 42,500 undergrads. Here are three links with more info if anyone is interested.

You're right. We have the same style of staircases in the Design college in the open atrium, and that's probably what threw me off. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go attempt to put my foot inside my mouth...

They used to have a truly outstanding foreign language department; don't know about that, now.

Despite not having a grad program in it, ISU produces some of the best Medieval History folks in the world. (I am still P.O.'d about that, but that's a long story)

Re: Just watched the GC video - time to update the resume

I think it would be interesting to do that.

However, the way the Regents have designed the system, Iowa's the Medical/Dental school, ISU's the Agriculture/Vet Med school.

Does that mean anything? Who knows. Then again, it could be just another academic program that excels ahead of U of I.
