    Re: NHL All-Star Game

The players didn't go on strike, the owners locked them out. But that is neither here nor there, and it's still a shame more people don't watch the incredible athletes that play this sport.

    Re: NHL All-Star Game

All-Star games are always high scoring for 2 reasons:

    1. Quality of scorers up

    2. Quality of defensemen is overridden by the non-physical play

This year may have been 3 goals higher than normal due to the recent rule changes.

    Re: NHL All-Star Game

While I missed it (I was playing roller hockey tonight, and backstopped my team to a 5-3 win!), this is typical for all star games. I agree with joskvig on the reasons, and all star games always look like roller hockey games due to the lack of physical play (no one wants to get hurt, and the fans want to see wide open play showcasing offensive skills).

    Re: NHL All-Star Game

Yeah, you guys are right about the offensive skills showcase thing, but wouldn't just kick major ***** if a defenseman just came out of nowhere and decked someone? That's one of my favorite elements of hockey...it's a shame they don't play that way sometimes.

    Re: NHL All-Star Game

I should probably clarify that by "decked", I actually mean, "checked"

    Re: NHL All-Star Game

I didn't watch the game but I half expected Phaneuf to lay a hit on someone like you mentioned, sodakjoe. Roenick did it a few years back and got in hot water about it (but then again, JR lives in hot water...)
