    Star Trek is Back

I have returned from a long slumber. My latest show is directed by the creator of Lost, JJ Abrams. We should be so lucky. Make it so.

    Re: Star Trek is Back

It looks pretty promising, and so far reviews have been great for it. I'm no Star Trek fan by any means, but I was even surprised at how easy it was for my girlfriend to go see it with me as well.

Has anyone had a chance to see the movie yet? Is it nearly as good as the reviews?

Yes. Better. Its Batman Begins or Casino Royale for Star Trek.

Strong statement. I was floored by Batman Begins when I saw it in theaters, and Casino Royale was pretty good as well. I hope to catch Star Trek sometime this weekend.

I'm a little worried about it myself. The reviews are so strong and so many people are hyping it that I'm afraid I'm going to be expecting too much.

Honestly, I'm expecting a good movie, but I also can't shake that "campy sci-fi" feel that Star Trek always brings to mind for me. Anything different than from what they've done before is a plus for me.

    Re: Star Trek is Back

You should enjoy it then. Its definitely a more 'real' feeling than star trek has been.

Reminds me a bit of the Battlestar conversion too, where they went from campy to more real, more focused on the characters and the story. We had a few in our group who weren't star trek fans and they really liked it.

I've been a star trek fan for a long time though, I'll be interested to see what your review of it is.

I'm psyched to see it when things slow down a little bit after graduation and moving. I am worried as well though about having my expectations raised too high.

    Re: Star Trek is Back

GREAT movie. It's well done and has a perfect plot to manipulate the Trek storyline. Basically every character is changed from the original plot. It was really funny too. A lot of great, funny dialogue. The CGI was awesome and well done. Overall, it was a great movie and a new spin on an old classic. Definitely comparable to Casino Royal and Batman Begins.

I can't wait to see it again and I'm looking forward to a sequel. It has the potential for a new TV series as well.

About 200 people at the 7 o'clock showing here in Ames.

It's been a long time since the audience applauded at the end of a movie I was at. It just happened at the 7:00 showing here in Ankeny. Great movie! Loved Scotty's little sidekick.......

    Re: Star Trek is Back

I give it a definite A, most people will really enjoy it. The cast was excellent, acting solid, interesting plot. It was more about the characters and how they come together than the antagonist (crazy romulan played by Eric Bana).

Best moment: I never thought I'd see Harold from Harold and Kumar, the guy who brought us the word "milf" in American Pie, totally kicking romulan *** with a samurai sword.
