    Husker site bags on Chizik

Did anybody else see this column?

The author seems to be an expert in analyzing Big 12 recruiting and doesn't see any "big name" recruits in Chizik's stable yet. Also claims GC isn't much of a recruiter - which could end up causing more of the same mediocrity in the program.

Is it just me, or do Husker fans/writers never have anything positive to say about "their little brother to the east?"

(I'm not going to even touch the columns this guy has written in the past)

Read what he wrote on his first sentence: Iowa State did the right thing in firing Dan McCarney. After some success (by ISU standards), the Cyclones began backsliding to the bottom of the conference.

"by ISU standard" - clearly this guy will say anything there is to say negative about Iowa State. Screw him! Move on to another article from an unbiased site.

Honestly seemed pretty dead on to me. Only time will tell. No one ever said it would be easy.

Re: Husker site bags on Chizik

not much to argue about in that blog. It's easy to be a super star coach when you are surrounded by national championship caliber defenses, which is what Chizik had at Texas & Auburn.

No quesion that Chizik and his staff will have their work cut out for them on the recruiting trail, espically considering that most of his assistants came from lower tier 1A and 1-AA schools as there's a huge difference in recruiting against fellow Sun Belt conference schools and going against the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.

Getting 5* & 4* studs to come to Iowa St on a consistent basis will be just a tad bit harder than what it was at Texas.

Re: Husker site bags on Chizik

Of course Chizik's recruiting class is going to rank at or near the bottom at this point. To do any better would be a major indictment on the recruiting abilities of the teams that are behind him. The "author" fails to point out that his opinions are based on early results from a coach who entered the recruiting battle very very late. Judging ISU's recruiting class at this point accomplishes very little.

Let's wait until recruiting season is over and then see what Gene's recruits look like on the field. Then the judgments can begin regarding Chizik's recruiting abilities.

Nah, this is too damn funny watching you guys get all bent out of shape over what some guy on the radio says. You know, if Pollard wanted to get people talking about Iowa St football, why the hell hasn't Chizik been heard or seen from in the media since his introduction back in November?

Orginal slam there. What's next, what does Nebraska & Wheaties have in common? Or what does the N stand for? Come on, Fuskers? Lame slam.

Re: Husker site bags on Chizik

I don't think anyone expected him to run out and grab a slew of 4-5* recruits to Iowa State this late in the process. It's too early to knock him on that.

But the author is right about one thing: Chizik will have to land
    some whoppers in '07-'08.

I just want him to field a competetive team this year. I'm not even looking for wins this year, although it would be nice. Seeing us getting blown off the field by Kansas last year was depressing.

Re: Husker site bags on Chizik

Recruiting is not always about getting 4* and 5* recruits. You can have a whole team of them, but if they don't fit into your system, or if they are not class guys, they won't do much good, and not all of them live up to the hype. It's also about finding some guys 2* and 3* guys that have raw tools and developing them into 5* players.

It is hard to sell Iowa State to a kid that's been offered by Texas or Oklahoma or is a higher tier recruit. But it WILL HAPPEN NEXT YEAR. Chizik has been a man absolutely possessed over the past few months, especially the past month. A bud in the know said he's almost never in the offices back in Ames.

Garn needs to be watching things more closely at the mothership and worrying less about little brother. Seems that Nowledge U is losing players and recruits at what should be to Husker fans an alarming pace. Let's see where their recruiting class ends up and not based comparisons are on the way things stand now.

Chizik is off dealing with the football issues. Athletic Director Pollard is dealing with the promotional issues surrounding the Athletic Department. So we have the FB coach doing the FB coach stuff and the the AD doing athletic department stuff. Brilliant scheme, don't you think???
