    New e-mail scam alert

Got this today in my business e-mail...link (which I removed) goes to a site asking for personal info, including SSN. Firefox picked it up as web forgery and displayed a warning message. Wasn't tough to figure out is was a scam, simply knowing no one would get such an e-mail and the from address was bogus.

    Re: New e-mail scam alert

I also received an email like this. Not exactly the same but very similar. In the subject line they spelled urgent as urgente. That was my first clue. I received 3 over 2 days. Same amount of $189.60. From a gmail account.

I read a study a few months ago of a team at a university that used a spambot of some sort to send out an e-mail to a few million people a day about a product that required a monetary buy-in. Increadibly, they got a few responses (and payments) back each day.

Lesson of the day: when you cast your net into a big enough pond, you're bound to catch a few stupid fish.

Apparently enough people do - if they didn't it wouldn't be worth the time or effort putting the scam out there...
