    Great blog/link--enjoy reading A VC.

Here's the link to an LA-Times article he gives in the post (also about AmEx): American Express' risk-cutting poses its own risks - Los Angeles Times

Re: American express - Your Favorite Card Company

Why do people even carry their card?

Last I knew, they charged a fairly steep annual fee and seem to be a pain to work with.

I have a Cap One card, it's free, pays a decent cash-back program and the credit limit is maybe a 1/4 of my gross income - and that's without even asking.

Are people still under the impression that Amer Express is somehow held in a higher regard by merchants?

for the $150 annual fee on the gold card (now closed), I received a Callaway X 5Wood, a Callaway X 3Wood and a 2Ball putter. Those clubs seem to win me a few beers.

I think my clubs, or rather the person at the end of the handle, had more to do with you winning that extra large beer, than your freebies did.

I went 20 years with only one cc. A few months ago I added an AMEX card because of Costco but I only use it there. I've had no problems with them and if I could use it everywhere I would drop my BofA CC. I never had a problem with MBNA until BofA took them over.

I love the American Express blue card. You can transfer balances when you open the card for 2.9% (or 3.9%) for the life of the balance. It's been a life saver, transferring my wife's-rate balances.

Re: American express - Your Favorite Card Company

What I don't like is the way they have talked so many businesses (and the military) into forcing people to use their card for business-related expenses, and then holding those individuals, not the companies, responsible for the charges.

A much more ethical way to do this would be to issue a debit card with limits based up on the travel involved.

AMEX collections routinely and by design break the law. They are very similar to an organized crime ring.

I was trying to post that commercial from Major League but I can't seem to find a good one on the internet

Just got a letter in the mail from BofA. They are now charging 4% on all foreign transactions.

I got that too - although it's a Bass Pro Shops that never gets used. We'll see when the store opens up in Altoona, if it's worth keeping.

But is that fee a common thing with CCs? I don't remember getting hit with a fee when I went to Mexico about 2 yrs ago. But with rolling the dice on currency exchanges - who really knows. Seemed right.....

I think that it's a common thing pushed down from Visa and MasterCard.
