Big DB's may be committing to ISU

I'm hearing from several sources that the size of the Defensive Backfield is getting bigger with the new recruits coming in. So far we are seeing:
-Offensive linemen transfers that can help immediately
    -Linebackers with speed
-DB's with size to bolster what we have
    -Help at Running back
No doubt about it, Chizik is recruiting on two fronts
    1. immediate help where it needed
    2. building a strong longer term base
    Sounds like a plan....

What a novel concept, a coach with a recruiting strategy. The hell you say??? Whatever will we do??? Oh yeah that's right win!!!!

Are we going to sign six more wide receivers???? Are we going to ignore needs???? Well then that is enough validation of Chizik for me. Imagine if the damn guy can coach, then I will think that these aren't the Cyclones of my youth anymore.

I am not for sure yet, but I think that the balloon is taking off, we might be leaving Kansas afterall Toto.

It makes more sense to me than recruiting guys that will never play to fill up the bench...and who knows, maybe we will recruit a field goal kicker for the future. (is that allowed)

What will really impress me is if we get some "crosby" type kicker when Shaggy leaves. What if all we had to do is get the ball to the 35 and we knew we were good for at least 3? It seemed like Mac always ignored one of the most important parts of football b/c they were doing well in practice. I think Shaggy will have a good Senior year, but I hope Chizik is willing to actually burn a Scholly on a top rated kicker. Please.

Not to sound like a jerk, but I doubt that Chizik will offer scholarships to any Iowa kids. I know he said his first priority was to scout the talent in state, but I'd rather take my chances with a kid who has speed from the south than an accomplished iowa high school player. Once you have watched football in another state other than Iowa, you will see that the game is played on an entirely different level.

We had defensive backs playing linebacker, linebackers moved to the defensive line, running backs moved to defensive backs....and no depth at any position?
Coach C is making sense here.

Looks like we will need a scorecard and media book to see who plays where. Suspect we start landing some more people from Florida.

Actually if you take a look at the interested recruits on rivals.com, there have been several iowa recruits added to that listed that were not there before McCarney resigned. Im not sure if Chizik has gave them scholarship offers, but he definently has been talking to Iowa players.

What top Iowa players are left? Canady is the only one I can think of. He could help in the future at RB.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.

Canady is the top player left in Iowa, but Chizik is recruitng people that have not been highly touted...

Yeah, I noticed the new names that were added to the list. I really don't see Chizik offering as many scholarships to Iowa kids like McCarney did. He just has too many recruiting options in Texas, Florida, and Alabama to use up a scholarship on an Iowa athlete that may or may not project to the next level very well.

Speed, speed, speed...you can't play aggressive attacking football (on both sides of the ball) without it! We need it and Coach Chizik is trying to get it for us!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

To be fair, DMac did use scholarships on the PK position. I know Josh Griebahn, our kickoff specialist last season, was given a scholarship out of West Branch HS (don't know if it got yanked). He also awarded a scholarship to the PK recruited from Bettendorf HS last year. Considering that Tony Yelk had a scholarship (offered when Nate Kaeding spurned us for EIU), he did it at least three times; it's unfortunate that none of them really worked out (thus far, at least).

Woody Orne would be a really good get. The kid is big and very athletic. I watched him play basketball when he was in junior high in Urbandale before he moved back to Fairfield with his dad, who is the high school basketball coach. I know his mom and one of his two little brothers and he wants to attend ISU. He played tight end and defensive end and was a difference maker in their games.
