    Re: Pontiac GTO

That's a good article about the real GTO's, not the wannabee gto's they were building the last 4-5 yrs.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

You laugh, but I had the opportunity to see a Bugatti Veyron, sit in a Bentley Continental Speed GT, and a Ferrari 308 in Jan. 2008, and out of the 3, the Ferrari looked, felt and sounded like a cheap toy.

But old Enzo did "okay" with the 250 GTO.

    Re: Pontiac GTO

what a coincidence. I was just watching funkmaster flex restore one on spike.

Man, I'd love a muscle car.

My dad has an old 65 Impala rotting in our garage, but that is never gonna get done.

it could look nice if he doesnt want to restore it exactly as it was.

    Re: Pontiac GTO

The Goat's are legendary. Usually #1 in muscle car ratings.

It's interesting back in the 60's the GM divisions were truly independent divisions that had the freedom to think independently. Seems their demise occured when they got away from that line of thinking and went to "re badging " cars.

The Holden Monaro-based GTOs they were building in the last 4-5 years were actually pretty awesome cars. I think they are right in line with what the GTOs once were brought forward to today.

I'm more partial to the stacked headlights of the '67 myself...

I saw someone out for drive in a Ferrari F430 Spider yesterday. I rolled my windows down to hear the engine sound when it took off and, to me, it didn't sound any different than an Eclipse with a coffee can muffler. I thought it would be more a low growl??

    Nice looking car though.

Ferrari engines (most Euro supercars actually) have small relative displacement with DOHC and are built to scream on at high revs, rather than growl down low. They aren't unlike alot of import powerplants in that respect. The differences are cylinder count, materials and refinement. The 4.3 liter V8 would have cylinders roughly the same size (depending on stroke of course) as either the I4 or V6 model of the last generation of the Eclipse. More in common with that engine than an LS2 from the last GTO.

Yep. Understood. However, you would think some engineering of the exhaust note would be part of the design of such a high end car. I would describe the exhaust note on that vehicle as annoying.
