Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

    The DM Rag article; http://www.desmoinesregister.com/app.../70123032/1003

I for one am sick of the Rag always drawing comparisons to EIU and ISU. Everybody knew assistants were going to make more money with Chizik.....so what, Ferentz is way over paid so you can't pay EIU assistants as much.......it's that simple.

So what, we are ranked 3rd in the big 12. What does it matter how what we pay our coaches compared to Iowa's coaches. It you want to win you have to spend the cash to get the best people. Iowa State wants to start competing for the Big 12 championship every year. Not just beat Iowa.

Re: Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

You make a good point. Why don't they include the total payroll for each coaching staff? How could they forget the highest paid state employees salary of almost $3M per season as opposed the roughly $1M ISU will be paying it's head coach?

If they weren't so biased maybe they would report that the difference between the two head coaches salaries is greater than the total that will be paid to all of ISU's assistant football coaches. That is a something worth reporting, but alas the Register always misses the real story. This is a perfect example of why I don't subscribe to that crappy paper.

Is this even important? Must be a slow news day for the Rag.

I would think that the Liberals at the "DM Register", and in Iowa City, would be glad that the "salary pie" at ISU is being more evenly distributed at Iowa State. Unfortunately their great distaste for anything related to Iowa State trumps their usual agenda.

It's Iowa, it is always a slow news day. This is why everyone gets so fanatical about Iowa v ISU, there is nothing else to do here.

Re: Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

You guys realize that this story is actually positive for us, right? It seems to imply that we are now making as large of a commitment to football as "financial big brother" Iowa. I guess I don't really see the bias on this one.

I'll bet the top assistants at Iowa love that.. they'll be knocking on Barta's door tomorrow... Pollard is really playing with their minds over there... I love it!

Re: Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

This one is simple. Hawks play $2.9-3.7M including endorsements to Kirk, then they have no money for Norm and gang. Let's also mention that Lyle Kiffin, new head coach of Oakland, will be only getting $2.5M a year. Hmmm. Sounds like a real slow day for news. Frankly I would have thought our two top assistants were being paid $600k. Last laugh is when we play on New Years Day and Hawks have to go to Detroit Bowl. Kirk is highest paid state employee. He should run for President like Tom is doing.

It's pretty simple guys. We have better coaches. And soon we will have the better team.

Great point, though they would only be happy if everyone made the exact same amount. Oh, and if we dumped our form of government and went socialist.

Re: Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

Hmm, so the Rag is trying to hint that ISU is overspending on its assistants or what? Let's see which school is getting more for their money shall we:

Farentz makes 3 mil last year, wins 6 games: $500,000 for each win

Mac Made just over 1, wins 4 games: $250,000 for each win

Okay Rag, it ain't rocket science, but let's try this again. Which school may be paying too much for its coach? (hint: it starts with an I and ends with an OWA, and it is bigger than a bread box)

So when do I get to read that article? I better not hold my breath.

Re: Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

Make no mistake...the "pro-Hawkeye establishment" is a little scared about what is going on in Ames. They are going to try to put a negative spin on anything that is positive for ISU.

By the way, I think the writers/columnists at the DMR are overpaid!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Re: Salaries for ISU Coordinators/ DM Rag

The thing I found most problematic about this is that the reporter created a false story. There is no connection between what ISU and UI pay their coaches, unless the reporter decides to make one.
