    Congressman wants to change BCS

With all the things going on in the world, it appears congress has time to work on sports...what do you think...should they even be involved?

Re: Congressman wants to change BCS

I'd love to see a playoff. But.....

Congress has no authority here. None.

    That usually doesn't stop them.

Our leaders are engaging in purely political BS.

That doesn't seem to stop people from voting for them.

Re: Congressman wants to change BCS

They should just go back to the old bowl tie ins when there wasn't the BCS and then we can have total controversary every year. Let the Big East and ACC go to the Orange, Pac 10 and Big 10 to the Rose, Big 12 to the Fiesta and the SEC to the Sugar. That way there aint a title game and no one will be happy

College football has more to do with interstate commerce (something that Congress does have authority to meddle in) than many, many other things that the federal government is involved in.

And the NCAA generates much revenue, for which they have a tax exemption...

    Therefore meddling will be inevitable.

Re: Congressman wants to change BCS

Here's the thing if they wouldn't call the title game a title game the BCS could do this and nothing would or could really be done with it but once they call it a title game then Congress gets all up in arms over it.

Re: Congressman wants to change BCS

I notice the congressman was from Texas and made some reference as no play-off being like communism. Gee I wonder if he might be pandering to his base back home in Texas, who was shut out of the championship game last year? But if the NCAA is tax exempt as somebody pointed out, it's even more reason imo that the prez and congress should at least apply some pressure to get a play-off as I believe the public is overwhelmingly in favor of it. Sure there are a lot of more important things to deal with right now, but no denying college football is very important to probably the majority of Americans.

Of course it is. Every year there's some congressman from a state in which a slighted school is located who gets all up in arms about the BCS. This is nothing new.

People should make no mistake--it's not Congress that's wasting their time on this. It's a couple of people in Congress.

I would normally say "Doesn't congress have more important things to do?" But considering the amount of money they want to spend any time we can get them to waste on things they really shouldn't be discussing is money saved.
