    NFL scouts in town

Not sure who they are here to see, but scouts Curtiss Crossley of the Minnesota Vikings and Kevin Simon of the Dallas Cowboys are in Ames.

I can't say how I know they are here, but I might get a chance to ask them. If I do, then I will post their replies.

Except that Freeman was a bigger recruit ...meaning a bigger name, is 2 inches taller, and has a stronger arm

but freeman is not nearly the QB that austen is. better physical ability? yes, but nothing after that.

a few other names i'd think would be possible guys they are looking at... James Smith, LJ, A-Rob, Darius Darks, Sed-J

So a player with one year as a starter with not even 3,000 yards will be a first round pick?

NFL scouts go to every NCAA 1A and 1AA school after the draft to test every going to be senior. Doesn't mean much at this point.

Josh Freeman threw for less than 3,000 last year as a junior and he started all games the last 2 years and the majority of his freshman year so your argument doesnt make sense....... he also had almost the same amount of rushing yards as AA (404 for freeman, 401 for AA)

....why wouldnt AA be a first rounder if freeman can get drafted that high?

Exactly, they go to D-III schools too (to visit my AA cousin at Augie).

Two inches in height mean a TON to the NFL. Freeman is the prototype NFL QB. Size, speed, arm strength. I don't know that he has the leadership and intangibles that a guy like Sanchez has, but that doesn't always matter on draft day for some reason. I'd be shocked if AA is a first rounder. Bret Meyer didn't even get drafted. AA should get drafted, but I doubt he's a first day pick.

    Re: NFL scouts in town

Height for a QB is overrated. Case and point is Drew Brees. Anyone making the argument that QBs need to throw over O linemen don't seem to realize that schemes are designed to throw in lanes and windows between them. Hell with lineman being 6'6 and taller these days you would need a QB of at least that height.

My take on Freeman is is that he may turn into a decent NFL QB as a game manager type but I have never seen the intangibles that Sanchez has, or Matt Ryan for that matter. Ryan did not have the most talented team at BC but they played better because of Ryan. I did not see that same effect with Freeman or Stafford for that matter. Playing big in big games is critical in the NFL.

NFL scouts probably aren't coming to look at guys from ISU they couldn't even draft for another two years. USC maybe, ISU no. So knock three names off your list.
