    New Free Anti-Virus

I know we have christened AVG and Avast! as the winners of the CF recommended free AV software, but this one looks interesting.

Panda Cloud Antivirus FREE - The first free cloud antivirus against viruses, spyware, rootkits and adware

It harnesses the power of cloud computing, and appears to have a very small memory footprint. I think I'm going to try it out.

    Re: New Free Anti-Virus

    Thanks for the notice!

Because of this site, I was able to dump Norton and their pesky / obnoxious pop-up subscription reminders, and go with Avast.

But I wonder how effective Avast works - seems like you have to get infected first before it actually does something.

Also, Microsoft was offering a free deep scan during the Conflicker worm outbreak - I think it's still offered on their site.

I'm not 100% sure how it works. All I know is that I've never had a virus since I started using Avast. I love it.

I agree about the Norton thing it annoys me all day long and I just renewed it too.

Derailing my own thread, but to you Facebook pirates, did you know that at the bottom of the page, you can change the language of Facebook from English to English (pirate)?

    Pretty funny.

    Re: New Free Anti-Virus

If you insist on using virus protection, don't pay for it, that's for sure.

You can get the same level of protection from most if not all of the free products that you do with the for-pay ones.

You're better off just not doing the things that get you infected in the first place.
