    Camcorder/Camera

I'm planning a trip to France this fall and had some questions about camcorders.

I currently have a 3 year old Canon powershot A520. I have no problems with this camera and have no desire to have any more features.

Then I noticed this combo camcorder/camera for $150

    Genius G-Shot HD520 camcorder does 720p for $149

I'd rather not take both a camera and a camcorder to France. Would something like this be able to do both and would the pictures be as good as the ones on my Canon?

    Any other recommendations?

The camera side of almost any camcorder is garbage compared to even the cheapest point and shoot.

I have a HV30 and the pictures it takes are usable, but far from the quality of even my SD400.

    Re: Camcorder/Camera

I agree that the still pictures taken by camcorders are horrible.

That being said, my sister just bought a HD camcorder that has something like a 7 megapixel camera on-board, but that camcorder costs like $1200.

    Re: Camcorder/Camera

I have the Canon SX10. It's 10 megapixels, I think and takes video as well. The cool thing, is you can actually zoom during the videos. There's also the Canon SX1 which I think takes video in HD as well as pictures.
