    Wired hotel internet to wireless

Any suggestions on an inexpensive and portable option to turning a hotel eithernet connection into wireless?

I know I could use a regular wireless router, but after something smaller.

Well... my first thought was a wireless router, but since you dont want that bc of size, there are travel routers that have less range but are smaller...they tend to cost more than regular routers though.

    Amazon.com: D-Link DWL-G730AP Wireless Pocket Router/AP w/ Client Mode, 802.11g, 54Mbps: Electronics

    or
Amazon.com: Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GC: Electronics

    are a couple of options..

The most elegant is probably the airport express, but you're paying an apple tax on that, and it's literally twice as much as these options.

It's one more thing to carry, firstly, and, more importantly, I usually carry more than one device which could use a wireless connection, or that don't have an option for a wired internet connection.

This is pretty small, and it doesn't come with a clunk power adapter.

Re: Wired hotel internet to wireless

Don't want to hijak the thread but the wireless question reminded me of a question I have. We bought a $50 HP printer at Sam's Club a while back that didn't have wireless built in. Now my wife has a laptop and we don't use our desktop much anymore. Is there a way to convert the printer so we hook up wireless via the laptop or do we just go buy a different printer?

A wireless print server out to do it.

Get a wireless print server. One like this works. This actual one has been extremely compatible with various printers I have used.
    Newegg.com - NETGEAR WGPS606 54 Mbps Wireless Print Server 802.11b/g, 4 x RJ-45 USB 1.1 - Network Print Servers

You can get them cheaper though.

Re: Wired hotel internet to wireless

No idea why this thread sparked my first post on CF but here goes...

    Airport Express

<Billy Mays Voice>This handy little guy will answer both your problems. It will work as a wireless router that is VERY small, AND it will turn ANY USB printer into a wireless printer. For those of you that are anti-apple, it works very well will Windows too. </Billy Mays Voice>

Not a $5 Woot, but someday it might be in a Bandoleer of Carrots someday.

Re: Wired hotel internet to wireless

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I am looking for something inexpensive, as I hope I'm not using it long and I already have a great router at home. I like the Apple router, just don't need it.

Have thought about just getting a longer eithernet cable and a connector for the 2 cables and still may go that route. Would just like wireless as it's easier and I can use my phone with it too.

Re: Wired hotel internet to wireless

I've got a cable that hooks my moto Q to my laptop, in case such situations arise. It's not as fast as a regular wireless connection, but gets me through in a pinch...
