    Sushi?

Plan on making some homemade sushi today. Anyone know where I can find sushi wraps and a sushi roller?

    Re: Sushi?

Just to the west of the West Hyvee there used to be an asian food market. That's where we'd go to get sushi rice and nori. I'm pretty sure they sell the bamboo mats too.

I haven't made it in years, but given what we pay out here in nyc, I should probably start again. Good Stuff!

    Good luck.

Not all sushi is made from raw fish.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Waterfront inWDM flies fresh fish in daily. Its likely just as fresh as the stuff you would get on the coasts.

I hear that frozen works just fine in sushi too.

    Re: Sushi?

The fish at waterfront isn't as good as on the coast. I just moved to south carolina 3 weeks ago. Huge difference, especially with Sushi! But, I am sure it is still pretty fresh considering. I didn't like the sushi in Iowa, but like it here, my wife likes both, but says it is better here also.

    Re: Sushi?

    No luck anywhere in Ankeny.
Just making vegetable rolls today. My 3 year old saw it on Sesame Street and we thought it would be a fun rainy day activity for her.
I've had Tuna roll on the coast and at Waterfront and couldn't tell the difference but my seafood tastebuds is not very refined.
Also had it made with crab and shrimp and that is just fine to get at HyVee as far as I'm concerned.

    Re: Sushi?

I'm always skeptical about being able to obtain high quality seafood in the midwest. We can get ok stuff, but nothing like the coasts. At the same time, I have family that live in Virginia Beach, and whenever they come home, they bring about 4 coolers to fill up w/steak and pork chops. They claim they just can't meat (especially beef) out there as good as it is here.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Some of it's made from octopus, and it's good.

That's funny you mention that. I remember seeing it sold in the gas stations everywhere....spam, on a bed of rice, wrapped in seaweed.

They have a name for it, but I can't remember what is it!

You might try the Gateway Market in WDM.
